OEM OS updates are improving

Might be tempted away from Nexus/GEL devices next time around. I've noticed some like Sony and Moto are already rolling out 4.4.4 which is pretty darn good for an OEM device. That was an incremental update though so I'm going to watch how well they do with 5.0

Yeah, most major manufacturers are doing much better these days, at least with their flagships. I still like the Google-direct nature of the Nexus and GPEs, though.

100%! But even the Moto G is getting updates quickly a long side with the Moto X. Moto has been doing a great job. My next device for my self might be the next Moto X is the hardware and price is correct. :)

Once Motorola was able to update the Verizon Moto X from 4.2.2 to 4.4 in a matter of weeks from the 4.4 release, I stopped seeing carriers as the main roadblock. You need an OEM that will take the time to work on the update and fight to push it out.
