I'v realized that Google doesn't really advertise the Nexus on tv or anything? Maybe they will for the new one?

I was thinking that Samsung and apple only do pretty good because of the amount of advertising they do, to inform the public.

I just brought this up because it bothers me how not many people even know what a nexus is.... of course all my iPhone fanboy friends attack samsung in an caparison to andriod in general (ignorance).

They do, they just have a really small budget. I have seen these spots on TV before. Even during prime time.

Google does not want to be a hardware maker. The Nexus line is designed specifically to give developers ideas. It is Google's opinion of the perfect Android phone.

It would not really benefit google if everyone stopped buying Samsung phones and bought Nexus instead. In fact, it would be worse. Google is eating the cost to make those phones, and samsung's success is helping to promote Android.

Google is kind of changing this with the Android One and Silver programs. They are trying to incentivize vendors to make more vanilla-like phones. But the Nexus purpose will not change...it is not intended to compete with Samsung or HTC.
