TFT displays lcd amoled?

I posted on Google + saying how I'm looking forward to the new moto X pure edition and everyone kept saying how the display is s*** because it's a TFT panel.. To my understanding it's still an lcd screen, correct? And my nexus 5 has and lcd display and I think it looks good. How is this display bad and how does it compare to others on the market? Thanks
