Fat thumb presses home key while typing the space key

The OnePlus One has an option to use soft Navigation buttons on the screen or touch buttons on the bezel below the screen (these are not physical buttons). I use the touch buttons on the bezel.

While typing, I VERY often inadvertently hit the home button on the bezel which closes the app I am typing in.

I'd like to change the options home key function to.. Double tap to go home and single tap does nothing.

If the OPO doesn't come with that option from the get-go, I think your only option is to go with a Custom ROM that includes customized nav bar buttons. Though, most have safeguards in place to make sure you don't accidently remove a 'home' assignment.... so you may or may not be able to reassign the home button's 'short press' assignment.

Another option would be using the Xposed module GravityBox, if it is compatible with your phone.
