Android Pay and passwords

I had an LG g3 and now have a V10. I use Android Pay on both. Here's what I need help with. Same manufacturer (LG), same version of Android (5.1.1), same carrier (AT&T), same bank and cards, even the same pattern unlock. So why, WHY could I unlock phone - tap & pay on the G3 but on the V10 I have to unlock phone - tap - unlock Android Pay - tap & pay? Why the additional step on the V10?? Where is the setting I'm missing???

Is Smart Lock turned on for the V10? I recall on my ZenFone 2, if I had Smart Lock on, I always had to enter my unlock pattern again after the initial tap.
