Question about Wi-Fi settings.

On most of my Android devices, I have noticed that whenever I am updating a PlayStore app, the moment when the device's screen is switched off (and the device locked up), the downloads interrupts. I fixed the problem by enabling the "keep Wi-Fi on during sleep" feature, but doesn't this drain the battery? Is there any other way to keep Wi-Fi downloads on while the phone screen is off?

The device doesn't go instantly in sleep mode when it is locked, it usually takes few minutes to reach that state because of background apps. And keeping the wifi on during sleep mode will keep your mobile awake and hence drain the battery.
