Everything I have seen thus far has pointed to the iPhone's stalling numbers as far as approval (and even market share is slowing down). Although, this could also be due to the fact that the iPhone is only on AT&T in the United States at this moment, and it may be approaching market saturation. Let's face it, not EVERYONE on AT&T wants or can afford an iPhone.
This may change if and/or when the iPhone moves to other carriers such as Verizon, T-Mobile, and Sprint. Don't get me wrong, Droid does and I love the Android OS, but I think this is a combination of the growing popularity of the OS and the growing saturation of the iPhone on AT&T.

I doubt one operating system will ever win out. Android OS is still relatively new compared to Apple's. In time there will be complete saturation where Apple and Android manufacturers will have try to steal the other's customers which leads to innovation and lower prices for consumers.
A brick of a Nokia phone circa 1996 -> POS Sprint phone (don't remember model) -> AT&T Nokia (2003 -as seen in Spider Man) -> VZW's first picture phone with mobile internet LG VX6000 -> Motorola Razr -> LG Chocolate 2 (worst phone ever) -> LG EnV Touch -> Droid - best phone as of now

Whats going to be really funny is when an unknowing someone goes to get a Verizon iPhone, they get it home, and try to use data while talking to someone (like the current ATT commercial shows with the iPhone), and its not going to work!

Unless apple plans a major overhaul i'm pretty sure it'll probably be the same old UI. Which to be honest having owned an iPhone before my droid really wasn't that bad. Jailbreaking and customizing it with winterboard definitely added a much fresher look to it but the iPhone UI was far from the worst I've seen.

I know lots of people who have the ipod touch and a verizon phone. I wouldn't be surprised if the iphone sales stalled because lots of people are waiting for the verizon version. Of course if its anything like the Nexus 1 or incredible it could be a looong time comming!

My gut tells me that when Apple releases iPhone 4 (or whatever it is going to be called) the cult of Apple will kick in and launch this thing far ahead of Android/WinMo/Symbian/etc.
Every pseudo-yuppie/Apple Convert and eventually the masses will jump on the iPhone bandwagon and buy one. Sadly, while I am an Android user and would love nothing more to see Apple crash and burn, it is simply not going to happen, the cult of Apple is way to strong.

I will say to be honest if I could get an iPhone on my carrier of choice it would cause me to seriously consider getting it. I think that once it gets off of just AT&T then the numbers would sore unlike anything before. I don't think that Android would go away I just think it would kill Palm and RIM. But it would certainly make Google and the android developers work extra hard.

I won't be getting the iPhone when it comes to Verizon. I love my Droid, and Android, way too much for that. I do think though that, like I said previously, the iPhone will surge forward again once it hits Verizon with its new incarnation.. which by the way, is rumored to have a front facing camera for video chatting... something I think it's high time all phones had.

I don't think that there will be surge in sales for the iPhone this year like in years past. There are too many new exciting devices coming out. I think that The new iPhone will sell, but many are going the route of android and awaiting the emergence of windows phone 7. I know that I am. The iPhone didn't have that type of competition in the last coupled of years. It will be interesting to see where consumers go this summer. The EVO is going to really put a damper on the iPhone parade tbua summer especially if it is released first.

If they are happy with their phone and you are happy with yours, what gives? I have htc hero, but love Apple, used to have the iphone, and I miss it, but I do not wish ill on Android. It is there for the geeks, really, and has it's place. I am not happy with Android but for now am stuck with it, just wish it would get better faster and catch up to iphone is all.
HTC is looking to maybe start their own OS too, so there will be plenty of choices, as well as the old standby webos, winmo and blackberry...I think it would be interesting to see what htc would do with one of their own.Last edited by bbrosen; 04-14-2010 at 12:38 PM.

It's not so much a hating of iPhone (though it comes off that way sometimes) but rather wanting to see the cocky look get knocked off Satevo's face and Apple knocked down a few pegs.
iFans don't help matters mich
iFan = "Look at me I have an iPhone isn't it awesome!"
Droid/BB User = Friend: "Hey isn't that the enw Droid Incredible? Can I see?"
I have an iPhone 3G S (since last summer) and am way over it. Most of the appeal wore off after about 3 weeks and all I used it for after that was facebook and web. Now that I have Android with a browser that is just as good if not better the iPhone collects dust and the battery dies because I forget to charge it.Android is all about Personal Choice: Droid RAZR HD, Droid DNA, SGSIII, SG Note 2, HTC One X+, Galaxy Nexus, Nexus4... You buy an iPhone because its an Apple.
You buy a Droid because its a beast of a phone.

The EVO being on Sprint will pose absolutely zero threat to the next generation iPhone and mostly because of the carrier. None. I love when every time a new device is released it is always claimed it will give Apple a run for their money yet falls flat on it's face. For reasons mentioned already - expect this trend to continue. Also take into consideration the amount of carriers Android or any other platform is currently on compared to the iPhone being on AT&T only. If the floodgates ever do open it will be a wipe out for all other platforms - more so than it already is.
*disclaimer - I love all things tech - not just Apple. - 05-01-2010, 09:19 AM #23
So true. You gotta hate ignorance.
If only people got the phone because of the phone.
I personally hate the look if the iPhones now.
It's the same thing they've had for all these years. I'm sick of it.
They make a pretty cool OS, but that's bout it.
Apple has all these people in the palms of their hands, that's their major selling point.
Oh, and I think Apple will sell a ton of iPhones with their new G4 (correct?)Last edited by JorgeOlivera; 05-01-2010 at 09:23 AM.
