Trying to cast a video file off my local machine through chomecast last night and the video ended up being super choppy and hard to watch.

Any ideas on how to clear this issue up?

It's not really for casting local files. When you're trying to cast a local file you are first streaming it "out", then the cast is streaming it back "in".. If that makes sense..It's bound to have a lag.

It's not the same as Apple tv where you are streaming directly from phone to Apple TV. Chromecast is just pulling down online content that you tell it to.

It can be choppy if the WiFi signal isn't very strong or if you have a lot of traffic on your network. You can try setting the video quality to 480p instead of 720p in the Chromecast extension settings. Obviously the video won't look as good, but it should help to smooth out the playback.
