Failure to work on public hotspot

I learnt that it works in household AP but not public hotspot. What does cause this product to work like this?

Depends on how network is set up. Public probably set up with isolation to keep users separate. That may be issue. Also upnp may not be enabled.
Remember this is a device meant to be used at home on your private wifi connection.

Remember if your phone can see your Chromecast on that public network, then others can see your Chromecast too. But more importantly they can also see your phone, your laptop, etc. Somehow I think the choice of not being able to use chromecast on a public wifi network is by far the lesser of two evils.
