Default Why only some of my Android devices cannot see Chromecast?

Most of the searches I have seen on the internet pertains to people having issues with all of there devices not being able to see the chromecast.

I have only a few android devices that cannot see the CC and wonder if others have this issue.

    Devices that work include:
    Asus Tf300 tablet running 4.3
    Samsung Galaxy S4 running 4.4

    Devices that don't work:
Nook Color HD+ (I believe it is android 4.1)
    HP Touchpad running CM9 (I believe it's Android 4.0)

So could it be that Android 4.3 or higher is required?
If not, then anything else it could be?

Apps I have tested include the Chromcast app and Plex.

    Thanks

It can't be for the reason of 4.3. I have a Moto X on 4.2 and I can use my Chromecast with it.

Compare what version of Google Play Services you have installed between the devices that do and don't work. I'm guessing that the Nook and the CM device are not auto updating Google Play Services.

Should be able to check version numbers under Settings/Apps/All.

Is the Nook rooted and running a regular version of android, or is it still running the NOOK OS. Most likely it isn't getting Google Play Services updates since it isn't approved to. That may also apply to the Touchpad.

Keep in mind that all the Google Apps aren't freely distributed. They are only loaded on approved devices that go through the process with google. You could probably update the gapps package installed on the touchpad though. That may make it work

    So on the Nook HD+:
    Google Play Store 4.6.17
    Google Play Services 4.3.25

However, I checked on my Galaxy S4 phone, and it's the same version for both! My phone can definitely see the Chromecast.

OK - so there should be no software reason the Nook can't see the Chromecast from appropriate apps.

Next thing to check would be how the wireless network is set up and specifically if the router is operating in a AP/Client isolation mode for the Nook / Touchpad and not for the other devices. This is a setting on some routers designed to prevent different devices on the same wireless network from detecting each other. While your at it in the router settings it might not be a bad idea to give all your devices a set IP and an extended DHCP lease.

I have a router and multiple wireless AP all running ddwrt. All of them have AP isolation Disabled.

Also don't rule out the customizations B&N did to Android on the Nook. It is very possible they did something that effected the wireless card to not allow it this work. I mean lets put this in perspective. The Asus Tablet and S4 are running Android completely blessed by Google and OEM. The touchpad was hacked all to hell to get Android on it, and then the Nook is running some OEM non standardized heavily customized Android variant.

I would really like for someone to respond and say it is working for them.

Just to make sure this basic setup variation wasn't forgotten in your checking.

My wifi router broadcasts two different wifi IDs. My memory is that i couldn't see the Chromecast from a device when it was on the "other" wifi signal. We changed our router configuration so we can tell the two apart. But if you have a similar router your names but still be identical and you can't tell that the devices shouldn't be able to see the Chromecast.

As long as they are on the same subnet and network isolation is turned off that shouldn't matter. I control my CC from my note attached to the routers 5ghz band all the time.

Though I think using the same name for two different API'S could be problematic for other reasons.

I have different AP with different names. But I did test and make sure both chromecast and Nook is on same AP although like mavrrick said, it shouldn't make a adifference if it is on same subnet
