Cool newbie to android battery questions 2.2

Hey all, first wanna start off by saying I just came from blackberry which I had been with for about 3 to 4 years. Last phone I had was a bobby 9700 but was looking for a bigger screen and more apps and a all cooler phone experience, after 2 storm 2's one iPhone 3g I discovered android on a friends g1 and was instantly in love with the Os and scrambled to find the perfect android phone
After surfing YouTube and sites like this one ( which is my favorite) I decided to get the nexus one, got one used off Craigslist and away I was.
Instant love is what I got, but now comes the questions. First day I got it, I got an update to 2.2 and took it,
Q1 - seems the battery dies real quick with real light use, anyone with this same problem?
Q2- what do most of ya use as brightness settings? I currently have it at auto , could this be it?
I use task killer and kill tasks every half to forty five mins. Could this be the battery drainer?

Any other tips and tricks would rock to get the most out of my nexus one.
Thanks again for the input and the awesome site which I plan on posting in more frequently.
Sorry if its hard to read I am typing this up on my n1
PS I have an extra battery's on the way from Google in case ya think I have a battery that's messed up and as I typed this I went from about 70 percent to 49

The Nexus One has a lot of RAM and can handle a lot of apps running. Even then, just because an app is loaded in the RAM doesn't mean it's doing anything or using your battery. Android precaches apps you use often, it does this to speed up your experience for when you want to use that app it's already ready.

If you want to mess around with memory management, try MinFreeManager. I use Startup Cleaner just to close apps when the phone boots so things that I don't care about don't use resources during boot.

Also, FroYo did change some memory management techniques.

Indoors I have my brightness at the minimum and outside on Auto.

You should easily go a day with light use.

To get the most out of your phone, you should root it and run a custom ROM.
++ Main Device: Google Nexus One on T-Mobile
    ++ ROM: OxygeN1Mod 2.3.7

With my phone I have found that misbehaving apps has caused almost all of the battery drain issues on my phone. I had one app that would freak out about once every three or four days and it would drain my battery in no time. I got rid of the app and now all is good. Most days I'm around 60% when I get home.

Edit: I used SpareParts to find the app that was misbehaving. Look for an app under Partal Wake Usage that has been running for way longer than the others.

I also have a used phone. Remember that the battery may have been cycled heavily by previous owner and might not be as good as a new one.

I was disappointed in my battery the first day our two but it did seem to get better after that and I am now pleased with it. I use auto brightness, no task killers, and don't have stuff like facebook amd twitter syncing, just a few email accounts.

I bought my N1 brand new 11 days ago and had the same problems you had. I couldn't get through 11 hours of **standby time** at the beginning. Now I can get through an entire day with an average of 15% of my battery left. The secret? I did a factory reset of my battery, and then allowed my battery to die 100%, then full charge, then die 100%, then full charge. I currently use no task killer, no memory manager, no startup cleaner, no etc. If you want more details feel free to PM me as I was just about ready to return my phone due to the battery issues.

thanks so far for all the tips, i went and ordered a spare battery from the google store and the phone is charging as i type this, (battery came fully dead)

forgot to mention that i have twiter running updating every hour and also have 2 gmail accounts set up as well
Aside from that i dont think i have anything else running , but phone would drop to 89percent 20mins after unpluged with about 4-6 light text msgs and 1 or 2 phone calls,
    now that sucks
