Hey I just got my Nexus 10 and am excited. This weekend I will be traveling and have a ton of 1080P MKV files in my Media Server.

Are there any good free applications out there to convert some of the these movies to High Quality MP4 specifically for the 10" screens? Or maybe an app with a 30 days Trial?

I tried Handbrake and saw High Quality Android however i am completely confused. The new Width would be 720x800 however display size shows 729x304. That doesnt seem right for the 10".

Any help or better programs with a Nexus 10 setting you can point me too would be great.

or you could play mkv directly on your nexus 10 using MX player.

converting to Mp4 wont improve the quality if it all it might reduce it. I maybe wrong but that's my understanding

I am completely fine reducing quality which wont be that much since it will be playing on a 10" screen and not my 65" TV. All my bluerays are fully ripped uncompressed so they are all 20-30GB.

I want to get them down to 2-3 gbs for travel play.

Try the iPad setting in Handbrake. That's what I use for videos.

I just brought up a movie and selected IPAD and shows this.

Source : 1920 x 1080
Width : 1280 Height 800 < --- What does this mean?
Display Size: 1267 x 528 < --- What does this mean?
Anamorphic Loose
Modulus : 16

Sv: Free Program and Settings to Use : Converting MKV to MP4?

I'v re been using Avidemux a lot. It lets you have full control over the process without being overly complicated if you're knowing a bit about what you're doing. It supports a good deal of video and audio codecs and containers (despite the name, not only avi, but also mp4, mkv, ogm, mpg, flv, etc.), and every possible combination of them.

As for a player, perhaps VLC is worth a look? On a computer, VLC is known to be a nice compact player which supports as good as every obscure codec you throw at it. On Android it's still in beta, though, so you might experience some hiccups, still. Probably worth keeping an eye on, though, if you feel it's not ready yet.
