wired xbox 360 controller

I bought an OTG cable and a wired 360 controller and cannot get it to work. I plug it in and the green circle keeps flashing and I can't get it to do anything. It doesn't even show up in the input section on settings. Some videos on youtube make it appear to work right out of the box. Do I need an app? I thought with this version of android it would work right away. It is not microsoft brand so i'm not sure if that matters or not? Ideas? Thanks

what game? not all games will work. some has to configured in settings

Tried it on GTA 3 and need for speed. Are you suppose to be able to select icons from the home screen with it? Because I can't even do that
