Default Any way to access files over Home Wireless Network?

Got a Nexus 10 a couple of days ago, I've been looking for ways to access shared files on my home network from it. I've no problem doing this using Windows laptop but I can't find a way to do it on my Nexus (or my S3 for that matter). Is it possible?

ES File Explorer from the Google Play Store has a nice LAN access option which I use all the time to access various computers in my house on the network including my master backup drive.

This was a very useful thread for me. I had installed ES File Explorer when I first got my tablet, but hadn't gotten around to using it to access files on my desktop PC. However, this thread prompted me to get off my a-- and figure it out. After Googling around for an hour or two I finally got all the sharing permissions etc configured correctly on the PC, and did the appropriate setup stuff on the Nexus 10. As a result I can now sit in my recliner in the living room and play music, view pics and pdf files, and even view Microsoft Office documents and spreadsheets, all of which reside on the PC in the bedroom. Pretty cool!

Please provide some links or a search term to use. Some quick tips if you don't mind. I opened ES and can get to where I see the other devices by ip but that is far as I got.

I didn't take detailed notes and I don't have the time to go through and try to replicate all the searches I did. However, I'll try to help out at least a little bit. Start with something like "share files between Vista / XP / 7 pc's on a wireless network" or variations thereof. You'll have to poke around, but there ARE threads out there that tell you how to share files on a wireless network. One of the main things you'll have to do is to change the properties of the folder the desired files are in (e.g., Documents, Music, etc.) so that they are Shared. You will also have to go into the control panel network sharing options and change stuff around (again, I didn't take detailed notes like I should have). I believe one of the key changes was changing my network from public to private, so my PC was "discoverable". Again, Google around until you hit upon a likely thread. If it isn't what you need, modify your search and try again. That's what I did.

In ES File Explorer itself, there is a little icon at the top left corner that says "Local". In that mode you see files on the tablet. Tap the icon and a "Change View" menu will come up. Select LAN. On the "Add a server by Menu >> New >> Server screen, put your finger or stylus on the Search magnifying glass icon in the middle top of the screen and tap it. A "Scanning" circle will appear. Eventually (if you've set your PC up properly) an icon with the IP address of your PC will appear (the icon looks like a blue folder with a green globe in front of it). Tap the icon, and it will load the links to the files on the PC. For example, you should see an icon with "Users".Tap the "Users" icon and you will see the user names authorized to use the PC. Tap the name you want and then you'll see another set of icons. So far, I just have mine set up for Desktop, Music and Pictures. You could also have Documents or other folders if you want.

Has anyone found an app to transfer files via WiFi BETWEEN ANDROID DEVICES? Basically, I have a Galaxy Note 2, Nexus 10, and Nexus 7. I want my music, video, and pictures folder to auto sync up everytime they are all connected to a WiFi network.

What I DON'T want to do is use something like SugarSync or DropBox - A) Because I have 20 gigs of data and B) I don't want to burn up bandwith.

I've tried like 15 different products, and so far they all sucked.

There was an app review on AC in the last few days. The app was called OPEN GARDEN. The summary was it was a good start but still had some issues.

ES Explorere is great but I have a major question for someone . I have my Laptop Shared files set up as R/W for my Samsung Tablet 10.1. I can access just fine but whenever I save one of those files the editing program ( ie Kingsoft ) saves it in a Tablet TMP file and does not overwrite the original laptop shared file .. Anyone know how I can set a default so that the original files get overwritten ?
    Thanks

Can you access files with ES file explorer from remote network.

Example I want to watch video on my PC or look at files, but do it while at work or an airport.

I second the nomination of WiFi File Transfer (free on Google Play). It easily sets up a WiFi link Nexus-->PC and reverse and easily moves files either way. It is also the easiest way i have found to search the Nexu's arcane file structure for unwanted files. And there are no network shares/permissions to wrestle with.
