Is the Nexus the tablet for me?!..
Hi there guys, First and foremost I'd like to say I've been lurking here for a while and this forum seems great, With actual helpful replies, As opposed to other device forums which are full of snobbery and fanboyism. Which is why I've chosen this place formy query.. So lets go back a few months when I was lookimg for mt first tablet, I narrowed down my choices to the note 10.1, Nexus, And iPad 4.. And well im sure buy the title you would guessed I didnt go for the Nexus.. I did however go for the.. iPad 4 (
) Anyway.. As the time has gone by the silly limitations of iOS have gradually grated on me to the point where I now am slightly regretting it.. I mean gosh is it to much to ask and to much of a difficult task for me to have a song playing on youtube on one tab and be browsing on another
I digress.. My intentions where not to come here to bash the iPad, but to gain some insight from users.. What I want to know is if there are any limitations/restictions? I have a Samsung Galaxy S3 as my main phone, Is Nexus as capable as it? For example meaning..
- Can I download music/videos straight to my device from the browser like I can on my phone?
- Can I stream movies/films with ease? EG going on the browser and searching 'Watch Godfather' can I just click a link and it will work the same way it would on a PC?
- How easy/Hard is it to plug in a USB? Straight plug in and use?
- Is the lack of apps issue really prominent? I browse and view media more often than use apps but I like the odd game here and there.. And soacial apps like instagram ect..
Thats all the questions I can think of so far.. Oh and can I do a basic thing as to have someting playing in one tab and browsing in another!
nah that ones a joke lol.. Hopefully you guys can help me with my decision! Sell the iPad and get a Nex 10.. Or maybe something else? Any help and answers are much appreciated!!

Re: Is the Nexus the tablet for me?!..
If you want a tablet and laptop, look at the ASUS Transformer prime, you can ,I think add an additional 10 hours of on screen time with the docking keyboard, that is really good as well.

More power specs does not equate to better performance but the rest of the points are agreed upon by me. - 03-23-2013, 05:34 AM

Re: Is the Nexus the tablet for me?!..
Do not buy the current Asus Transformer, the chipset is Tegra 3 and that is already nearly 15 months old which is ancient in smartphone/tablet world but the most important parts are;
1) It will be superceded by Tegra in a few months
2) It's performance is inferior to the SoC found in Nexus 10
3) It has only 1GB of RAM so multitasking won't be as good as the Nexus 10 or Note 10.1
Look, if you have an S3 already I see little reason why you need to ask those questions? It's android so provided that you're on the same version or higher then tablet will be able to do what your phone can do (except for Touchwiz specific things but I'm sure there's apps/mods available as equivalents). - 03-23-2013, 06:13 AM #6

Re: Is the Nexus the tablet for me?!..
Yeah I understand that but im sure I read its not as easy to plug an external memory to the nexus as it is with a samsung device. So I take it whatever I can do on my S3 I can do on a nexus?
I could.. But I shouldnt have too! If you get what I mean.. A device that costs this much should do the things I require it too! - 03-23-2013, 06:31 AM #9
Re: Is the Nexus the tablet for me?!..
Pretty much yes, unless it's a touchwiz specific feature but the ones you've mentioned so far don't appear to be; the only one I can think of which you haven't mentioned is this multiscreen thing they've implemented on the S3, Note etc.
But yeah, I presume earlier on The Godfather comment you meant watching a streamed movie? You'd probably have to sideload the Adobe flash player apk (from their website or XDA forums, very easy to do) but nothing that requires rooting (equivalent to jail breaking if you're not familiar). - 03-23-2013, 08:29 AM #10
Re: Is the Nexus the tablet for me?!..
The Nexus 10 is the most superior tablet I've even had and ive had 3 prior it can do anything you can throw at it and then some I'd recommend it to anyone plus the updates directly from Google are awesome and usually get em within 72 hours of release :-) bottom line I'll never purchase another non nexus device ever the development ROMS etc everything about it rocks. I have a gnex on 4.2.2 and my nexus 10 is already on it as well so if you like updates go nexus.
