Thanks for the great ideas.
How do I remove the carrier name on the lock screen of my recently received N4 ?
I am a newbe with these toys. I have a lot to learn from you guys.

Thanks

I'm using the stock lock screen and don't see the carrier name on mine. I guess it varies with carriers but yeah you would have to use widget Locker to set up a custom lock screen

Thanks,

Do I need Widget locker for the lock screen AND a launcher for the home screens.
Is there a launcher that can do both ?

Thank you.

Widget Locker for the lock screen. You only need a launcher for the home screen if you want to customize/theme it. No launcher does both. Hope this helps

I spent last night trying to customize my phone. Here's what I came up with. Nova launcher, minimalist text for the time, date, and alarm indicator, simple text to make all the other icons. The bubbles are one of the stock live wallpapers. Full screen fancy widgets weather to the right. Misc to the left.

My home screen has been like this for ages. Changing themes, soft keys, icons, wallpaper and bw themes keep me satisfied.

The vertical Zooper widget calendar would look cool on this design. Check it out.

Probably not the best but I like it. The wallpaper interacts with music being played.

I haven't got my Nexus 4 yet, but I'm loving the custom themes that are on show in this thread.

I'd love to try to make my own, but I have no idea where to start

i was a noob not too long ago but now i feel pretty comfortable with everything. this video was the first theme i did, and it helped a lot.
How to Theme your Android Phone like a Boss *Galaxy Nexus* - YouTube

I also recommend going to mycolorscreen's youtube channel. watch the UCCW tutorials, simple text tutorials, and the android basics videos (custom launchers, how to make custom lock screens, etc). then you can watch their youtube tutorials on specific themes and you should be good to go. dont worry you'll get the hang of it :) if you have any questions feel free to pm me
