I initiated the email discussion after a week went by and the replacement device hadn't shipped (I was told over the phone during the original RMA process that it would ship in 2-3 business days). So, replied to the original e-mail that accompanied my RMA call. Google employee Chuck responded that there was no stock left, so I responded with a strongly worded, but polite, message about how unacceptable that was. It was then that he let me know about the 1% replacement stock, etc.

what issues are you having with yours? i too was told 2-3 business days, but have yet to hear anything so can assume I am in the same boat as you

The issue with the phone was it woudn't maintain a data connection over cellular radio on AT&T towers (tried both AT&T and Straight Talk SIMS, every APN I could find here and on XDA, factory resets, etc).

After being told about the 3-5 weeks, I called back and the guy on the phone said he was unaware of that, and thought it was weird it hadn't shipped yet. He actually just sent me an e-mail in response to the call, saying the issue has been escalated to a specialist, and that it could take a day or two to track down why the phone isn't here.

I am expecting the specialist to tell me there simply isn't any stock, so there's nothing they can do, but hey, you never know! Cautious optimism?

...and the specialist from the shipping department has confirmed there is back order on replacement devices, and said it should arrive within the next 3 weeks. This is technically better than 3-5 weeks, but still very frustrating.

Why did you order a replacement? Flaky and sometimes non existent data connectivity on AT&T (not ST)

Did you received the replacement? Told 2 to 3 days

How long did it take?

Did the replacement N4 have other issues?

How would you rate the process? Google CS was very nice

I am having the same exact issue. I think I going to switch to ST Tmobile to see if that works better. Do you think this data connectivity issue is specific to your bad phone or the model as a whole since I am having the same issue.

To those that say it is ATT's bad signal, I didn't have this problem with my LG Nitro HD I was using before the Nexus.

If you're not happy return it, you deserve something with no issues.

I know, I'm pretty sure I'm going to return it. I am worried about the possibility of getting an even more gimped/maimed phone, when this was is utter perfection...internally, its just those stupid marks, anyone else experience them? They seem so deliberate; perfectly placed.

Also they're veryyyyy faint marks, I just happen to meticulously analyze my new phones lol, guess I enjoy the pain.

Just think. What is the one thing you use all day. :)

So would your data connection just drop after like a few minutes or few hours or what?

When I turned on the phone, I'd have a data connection for about a minute, then it would drop, and wouldn't come back until a restart, at which point I'd have data for a minute, then it'd drop, etc, etc. Yes, I made sure WiFi was off, data was enabled, it was fresh from a factory reset, and I tried many many APNs. Nothing worked. I was even on the phone with AT&T tech support for 2 hours trying different dummy IEMIs and verification that I was signed up for the HSPA+ data package. After calling Google with these symptoms, they said it was a bad radio (a conclusion I suspected from the start, but didn't want to admit, for fear of the RMA situation I'm in right now)

Yeah i called them and looked into my options, got a really nice customer service representative, spunky and funny when i was expecting a monotoned middle eastern man, i started off saying it came with some scratches and right away she sent me a shipping label and said i can hold onto it until i feel like activating the replacement process, and she said i can do it whenever i feel like it and once i start it, theyll send me a new phone and once i recieve it ill send back the old one.

and on another note, i read a lot of people saying that replacements are backordered, when my representative told me, without me even asking, that replacements come even faster, she didnt make it sound at all like id be waiting forever, but its kinda moot since i can keep using the device. Im just obsessed with this device its perfect, and when i went to pick up my new micro-sim i looked at the galaxy note 2 and the GS3 one more time (they were my front runners for which new phone i was getting) and looked at the SCREEN BURN all over the top and bottoms of the screen, and i remember on my nexus one i got screen burn within like a month of owning the device, i wont miss amoled as much as i thought i would, and im loving the more natural looking colors anyway (of course anything black just looks disappointing but i digress)

I started my returns process last night after some serious creaking issues with the phone. In the top left corner the back seems to be slowly coming away from the silver surround and there is a noticable gap appearing when its not in its case. Mine too has the Nexus 4 rattle, but that is just the autofocus lense from the camera moving about, had the same noise on my old HTC Desire.

I spoke to a very nice gent in the US, I'm from the UK, and as he was setting everything up we had a nice chat about how its strange that I like baseball and basketball instead of soccer. He said he couldn't get the UK email to work correctly and modified a US template. In the UK you have to contact TNT or go to a local depot and source the return shipping label yourself, he told me several times. You will get the RMA label in the email they said you, I was still on the line when I got mine and he talked me through the process, but you have to contact TNT yourself here in the UK to get the returns label and pick up sorted out for your return.

The only thing that is concerning me is the time it will take to ship the device. In the UK the store it states a 6 to 7 week delivery period, way over the 21 day grace period on the AUTH on my CC, which doesn't bother me massively as I'm not near my limit and it will be refunded once the old device is sent back. I jsut don't want to have to wait nearly 2 months for my replacement. I replied to the email from the rep sent me after I noticed this and he said he couldn't give an accurate time frame of delivery. Currently my wallet just says pre-ordered, so I guess I'm in for the long haul.

For those who had already sent theirs back, did Google keep you up to date in their inspection process? Not just that they received it but actually inspected it for the issues you returned it for?

I would guess that they wouldn't. They would just refurb it and put it back into the stock pile to either sell on or give as a replacement.

No manufacturer does that. They figure you have your replacement and case is closed.

I thought I was the only one!

I've been living with my gimpy N4 for over a week now. Figured out that it would maintain an EDGE connection if i switch the radio to GSM Only mode... only seems to have issues when it tries to connect to 3/4G.

I feel like i'm in the stone age with these crappy speeds :)

They would atleast check for water damage or other warranty voids no? Also, do you think it is too early for them to be sending out refurbished, are they sending out new ones?

I ordered a replacement on December 1 for orange yellow stain on the LCD. They said I would receive a replacement 3-5 business days
Called Google a week later since I never heard from them or they shipped the replacement. They said they would "escalate" my case.
As of today absolutely nothing has been done and I haven't gotten my replacement or heard from Google.

I figure that they simply don't have new devices to ship.

I'm gonna hang on till they eventually come around to shipping my replacement device.

Google you fail!
