Default Enable GPS for Google Maps

Hi, I tried to use GPS in Google Maps but it keeps telling me "please enable google apps location access".

So I went into the setting in "Location access" and everything is already enabled (Access to my location is on), GPS is checked, as well as Wi-Fi location.
What else is there to enable??

From within Maps, go into the menu and select location settings and see if anything in there is amiss. I only have personal location history turned on, and mine works fine. Otherwise, try a reboot and see if that helps.

All i find in the google maps location settings is "Latitude location sharing". Do I have to turn this on? Rebooting did not work

nvm, figured it out. It was in the google settings, not in the phone settings..

Which google settings fixed it for you? I'm having the same problem on my galaxy running Jelly Bean.

There is no fix, YOUR LOCATION function is now bricked thanks to Jelly Bean. Get over it or buy an iPhone. Apple maps suck, but at least the gps function works.

Don't let it stress you. It's just a bug.

I guess this is only slightly related, but...

I can speak "directions from my current location to [a business] and it will usually display a map with directions.
But if I speak "directions from my current location to [a person's address]" then it wants me to turn on gps first.
    Why?

Try turning off WiFi and go into maps and click the compass to find your location. Worked for me.

The newest update split location permissions into 2 different sections...one is the normal location settings that is used by third party apps. The other is Google only. To access Google only, go to your Google account under settings and then location settings. Then turn on the normal location settings for maps to work properly

Thanks ppeklak. That was a great explanation and it fixed my problem. Seems to work fine now.

There's the mindset of an average Apple user: can't figure out how to get it to work? It's broken, buy an Apple product because it "just works". If Apple users stopped asking "why isn't it working" and started asking "how can it be fixed", they would save a buttload of money.

Cool Re: Enable GPS for Google Maps

To fix mine I had to go to enable reporting from this device. And it works now. You have to let your device report.

I clicked on settings then on the blue G Google, maps and latitude search location settings Google+ and ads should all be there . Click on maps and latitude and report from this device. There you have it

No bug, with 4.2 you have to allow the gps to access all of your apps including maps. Go to accounts, the select your google account that you use. Scroll down to location services hit that and then select enable.

After that your gps will work.
