Default Nexus 4, Google Wallet & T Mobile

Just received my Nexus 4 and Google wallet isn't working. I've tried it twice. The setup is done and the app seems to be working. I can open the app and switch between credit cards. The NFC works with beam. Is it the network? I'm on T Mobile.

I had some issues setting it up as well but it worked when I tried it at a store. If you are having problems putting in your card just keep trying, if you have your card in Google wallet then just select the card and when your ready to pay unlock Wallet and touch the pay pass. You need to have the card selected or it will decline your transaction.

Wallet works fine with T-Mobile on the nexi line. Just grabbed a coffee and smokes at 7-11.

That's an old version, open the play store and update wallet. Most current version (as of typing this) is 1.5-R87-v15

My colleague is using his Nexus 4 on T-Mobile and Wallet works properly.

Oddly, he had to actually disconnect from the WiFi network @ work before Wallet would initialize. However, it has worked flawlessly since.

I got it to work. Forgot to mention I'm on Cm 10.1, had to restore the wallet application that came stock with the phone. I got it set up now I have to test it at a store. Thanks for the help.

Wallet works fine on rooted phones. As of March of 2012 you'll get a yellow banner on top of the app on rooted phones which states "Unsupported Device" but that means exactly what it says, you won't receive any support from Google in regards to transactions, errors, issues, bugs, a rogue app stealing data, etc. The overall functionality remains, but you're on your own if anything hits the fan. Think of it like rooting your phone, the phone still works, but in regards to OEM support or warranty .... no go.

OK. Just tried to make a purchase at a CVS in NYC. My N4 did vibrate but said the transaction didn't work. I just got off the phone with Google Wallet support - they confirmed that unlocked phones are supported. They elevated my non working issue. I'll keep you posted. In the meantime, I've deleted the wallet data and reloaded. I'll try another purchase tomorrow.

There is a new type of sim card that can possibly cause problems with NFC. I'd call and ask t-mobile to see if they can tell you whether you have an ISIS capable SIM or old school SIM.

So this thread got me curious, so I setup my Google Wallet and headed to Walgreens to buy a few things lol. It worked like a charm! The Register girl said she never saw anyone pay with their phone before...

And Yes, I am on T-Mobile Pre Paid Monthly 4G $30 plan.

This is a helpful article. I checked the plastic sim card case and didn't find anything that suggested ISIS. According to the sim card photo link embedded in the article, I have a regular SIM. From earlier today, the message i got after trying to use GW was "The last transaction might not have been successful, ask the clerk if it went through."

I'm going to try a purchase again tomorrow.

I am also a T-Mobile customer, and so far I have not been able to get Google Wallet to work to make a purchase via PayPass. It worked perfectly on my Galaxy Nexus, so I expected no trouble with my N4. Granted, I only tried once at CVS. The phone recognized the terminal, but the transaction would not go through. I checked with the local T-Mobile store to see if I had an ISIS SIM card, and they assured me that I did not (then again, the rep also told me that BodyGlove makes an N4 case, which was wrong). All I can do is try again at another terminal; perhaps there was an issue with CVS that one time. I thought about cutting my old SIM to micro size, since I know GW worked with that one, but I didn't want to go through the hassle of re-activating.

You know what's weird ... if you open Google Wallet in the play store it says version = 1.5-R81-v4. But if i actually open the wallet app on my device > Menu > about - Version = 1.5-R87-v15

Update: Google wallet support hasn't gotten back to me yet. However, I deleted and reloaded my data then headed over to Duane Reade, which his a Google brand tap & pay, and it worked fine. A little slow but it worked. Anyone else?

I'm on T-mobile and my Nexus 4 is NOT rooted purchased from Google Play Store. Instead of swapping for a micro sim, the dude at the T-mobile store just cut my reg sim down. Put 2 CC's on google wallet, had 1 selected, opened the app and unlocked with my pin, and just bought some stuff at Walgreens just now in Chicago and it worked flawlessly. No delay and transaction went through just fine.

So I was finally able to get my Nexus 4 Google wallet to work. I use T-mobile pre-paid. I tried for a couple of days to open the google wallet app on my phone only to get error messages. I wasn't able to register the wallet and google wallet devices were not showing up on my account.

To be honest, I am not sure what exactly fixed the problem, but I will walk through what I did. (I have a hunch of what the answer is though, and if it is that, people will shoot themselves for it being so simple)

    1) Ok, first thing I did is go to my local t-mobile store and tell them I wanted a sim card without ISIS. I have no idea what ISIS is and nor did anyone at the t-mobile store. The only reason I asked for this is because I saw some blogs mentioned that ISIS sim cards interfered with NFC (and hence Google Wallet). Anyhow, the friendly people in the store had no idea what ISIS was, but they went ahead and gave me a new sim card. After inserting new sim card Google wallet still didn't work. Didn't even work two hours later, though one of the t-mobile employees told me it can take several hours for a new sim card to fully "register" (Not sure what he meant)

    2) After doing this second thing, Google wallet immediately worked. The solution is is so simple, I wonder if it is just coincidence, but I suggest other people try it to see it if works. So what I did is go to my computer and after logging on to a google site, went to my online google wallet account. (The same one I used to purchase my Nexus 4 in the first place) While there I was tooling around and realized that my contact information telephone number was not my cell phone number. So on a whim I changed my google wallet contact phone number to my nexus 4 cell phone number. I then disabled the google wallet app on my nexus 4 (from settings/app). Powered my phone down and then up, went to Google Play, searched for google wallet and re-enabled Google Wallet on my phone. Then I opened Google Wallet on my phone and Viola! it worked. My device is now registered!

(By the way, I had tried the whole disable/restart/enable routine prior to changing my number to no avail)

@nomaxno hey your method worked for me. I have my Google account all link up with my Google number and I was trying to get Google wallet to work. I was having trouble with the app force closing and being stuck at the setting up part. After reading this post I went into Google wallet and change my contact phone number from my Google number to my T-Mobile number. Rebooted the phone and tried Google wallet again and it worked on the first try. Please note I did this without WiFi connection and I didn't have to change my Sim Card. So if anyone is having trouble go check your Google Wallet account and make sure your phone number is the correct default number of your cell phone provider. I'm not sure if this will work for everyone else but it did work for me. Thanks nomaxno
