Hey all one thing I noticed immediately when I got my Nexus was that when the flash was used close up it was WAY too powerful, and hoped it would be fixed in a software update. But in the meantime its been proving difficult to take good photos, it seems the autofocus works but when the flash fires it uses maximum intensity which means all the photos are white'd out.
Just found that even if the phone has claimed to autofocus OK if you press the screen to focus it fires the flash briefly to focus which it doesn't seem to do normally, this appears to set the metering properly and then when the photo is taken the flash intensity/duration is noticeably less.
Here's a random pic just taken with letting it focus and then taking the shot :
This one was taken by pressing the screen to focus which used the flash to focus then took the photo as normal :
I dabble a bit with photography and I'm fairly sure this isn't an intentional feature and will be fixed in a software update along with the white balance detection.
Hope this helps some people.
