Quick Dial on Jelly Bean 4.2.1
Got my Nexus 4 a few days ago and absolutely love it, I just wanted to find out if you could get Quick Dial back (where you type the number that corresponds to the letter and it comes up with the contacts, you'll probably understand what I mean? Anyway any help would be great!
I tried looking for a topic about this and couldn't find one so don't go crazy at me for posting this if there is already a topic/post about this.

Re: Quick Dial on Jelly Bean 4.2.1
T9 dialer is available in most Custom ROMS but that's if you're comfortable unlocking the bootloader and flashing a custom recovery

Alternatively, just start typing your contacts name in the google search bar the one on every window on the N4. Then its 2 clicks away. 1 click on the name and the 2nd one on the number.

Re: Quick Dial on Jelly Bean 4.2.1
It is a joke that Jelly bean doesn't have this out of the box. It is, after all, an Android PHONE. You can say use another dialer, but when I did that in the past, it always screwed up the missed call notifications (they didn't clear properly when you went into the dialer).

Re: Quick Dial on Jelly Bean 4.2.1
I agree. It's outrageous that they don't have a speed dial in Jelly Bean. WTF????

Using more than 2 clicks to make a phone call is ridiculous and dangerous. Hello?? Don't these people call home to say they are stuck in traffic?
The best solution I've found is to use the resident Direct Dial widget. You can stack as many of them as you need in a folder on your home screen or even docked at the bottom of your screen.
1st-click to select the folder
2nd-click to select and call.
Excellent!

Re: Quick Dial on Jelly Bean 4.2.1
I think the whole quick dialing is ridiculous on a touchscreen phone.
quick dial was there on qwerty phones and yes it was easy to dial on qwerty phones but its pointless on touchscreen
if quick dial was there on touchscreen
1. click dialer app
2. long on numbers
if quick dial was not there on touchscreen
1. click dialer app
2. click on the favorites contact (make 9 favorite contacts) - 03-29-2013, 06:55 PM #11
Re: Quick Dial on Jelly Bean 4.2.1
Hmm… these are both good points.
Either way, there are easy workaround to this, as others have mentioned. Direct Dial widget, tap on favorites or even regular contact, search in home screen Google search bar, use alternate dialer, flash custom ROM.
