If you take this link and put your IMEI number at the very end, this LG site will spit back out the IMEI followed by a long string of characters that looks something like this: ?LGE960 ACAGBK 212KPHG188745 20121206 GLOBAL/GLOBAL N N?

If you break this string apart, you get:
LGE960 = phone model
A = ?
CA = Country where the device was sold. (Others include ?US? for the U.S., ?HK? for Hong Kong, ?AU? for Australia and so on.)
G = Storage (G = 16GB, 8 = 8GB)
BK = Color
2 = ?
12 = Production Month (November)
K = Production Country (Korea)
PHG = ?
188745 = The line or production number, showing that phone was the 188,745th device made.
2012121206 = The production date in YYYYMMDD format

Ladies and gentleman, we seem to be approaching the serial number "half of the million" Curious who will be getting it

Production rate seems to be accelerating to 20k devices per day.

To reach 750,000 a month, the production would need to produce 750,000 / 30 days = 25,000 a day. Right now, it is at 20,000 a day.

The rate is as followed:

October: 70,000
November: 90,000
December: 210,000
January so far (as of January 18th): 315,000 and on pace for 600,000

Total so far - January18th: 685,000
Predicted total at the end of January: 970,000

Could LG going for volume to make up for the low margin?

Crude Example using hypothetical #:

selling 1 million phones at $50 profit each = $50 million profit
selling 4 million phones at $15 profit each = $60 million profit

Right now, increases in production by LG are almost certainly a result of the initial product shortages (due to Google's low estimates for consumer demand) rather than an attempt to offset a low profit margin by moving a greater number of devices. In the future, however, that's definitely plausible. I'm sure they will want to move a larger number of devices to try and offset the aforementioned thin profit margin.

As for nearing 750k a month, I have nothing to say except "let there be mako."

Maybe but most people don't even know about the nexus 4. Unless it is named "Droid" or "Galaxy" most people don't really know about any android phones, they just buy what they see in the stores or a nerdy friend of their's tells them to buy.

Where was this production rate in November/December? They could have probably sold twice the amount or more of whatever they've sold so far, if they didn't botch up the release.

The demand in the UK and Germany was 10 times greater than the supply according to LG French executive.

Nexus 4 is over 703,000 right now.

If they sell 3x as many n4 as gnex, it is still only a total of around 1.6 million units.

I have doubts about the guess the guy on xda came up with.

On reports that only 375,000 or so Nexus 4s had been sold (based on analysis of serial numbers on Internet forums), Robin describes this number as "much lower" than the actual sales figures.

and it is not really a guess since the information is provided by the LG website. Put in the info you get from your phone and it will split out something like this:

<model>LGE960</model>
<suffix>AUKGBK</suffix>

Probably out of the LG database by poking at the serial numbers. LG does seem to assign them in sequential manner with no big holes in between.

first it isnt an LG guy making the statement, it is some guy making a hypothesis but lets go with what you have.

"no big holes" --How big? How Many? does the sequence skip every other number. How about every 10th?
next, there is quality control. Some are just thrown back to the recycling bin.
How many pre-production model numbers were used, you know just testing the line?
Made is not equal to sold
Post #40 brings up another question mark.
Finally where did they start? looking at that thread, it started at 200K but was that because of what I stated above, or is that just the start date?

I honestly am not pooping on the parade, it could be right. We will not know for sure until someone at Google or LG says 500K have been made and the numbers line up. Until then it is just speculation

Robin is not a random guy making a hypothesis. And she is the LG Mobile France director.

Today, an interview with LG Mobile France director Cathy Robin could give us our clearest indication of what's actually going on behind the scenes with supplies of the LG-made Nexus phone. Speaking with French outlet Challenges.fr,
.
.
Robin denies LG is selling the Nexus 4 at a loss, but says there's an agreement in place with Google to sell it at a "very attractive price."
.
On reports that only 375,000 or so Nexus 4s had been sold (based on analysis of serial numbers on Internet forums), Robin describes this number as "much lower" than the actual sales figures.

A Little Sleuthing Leads Nexus 4 Enthusiasts To Estimate About 400K In Sales Of The Device | TechCrunch

However, a little sleuthing by some Android enthusiasts and Nexus 4 owners suggests that LG produced about 400,000 devices going into the end of last year.

How did they do it? They?ve taken the IMEI numbers of their phones and backtracked the production number of their devices using an LG mobile link that?s usually used for finding new firmware. An IMEI number, or International Mobile Station Equipment Identity number, is usually printed on the battery compartment of the inside of the phone. It can be used to prevent stolen phones from accessing a network.

LGE960 = phone model
A = ?

2 = ?
12 = Production Month (November)
K = Production Country (Korea)
PHG = ?
188745 = The line or production number, showing that phone was the 188,745th device made.
2012121206 = The production date in YYYYMMDD format

A number of Nexus 4 owners have been sharing and compiling the production numbers day by day (see below). It suggests that LG made about 70,000 devices in October, 90,000 in November and 210,000 in December.

If you have a NEXUS 4, look for the IMEI number and put it to at the end of this link, it will you all the info.

I am not sure of your entire point.

First off, a supplier of an item has no idea of the sales figures from another company. They only know how much of an item is ordered.

Next, who is the point you are trying to make?

My point is that XDA-Developers # might be accurate.

Ok I got that but...

It doesn't mean sold
And the title of the thread states 750k per month, not total.
750k total is still misleading for the reasons I posted earlier, but I could say that it is a very good educated guess
