Does anyone know of a way to safely remove the glass from the back of the phone? Mine was dropped onto carpet from about two feet withing six hours of me getting it, and now the back is cracked. It doesn't look as bad as a lot of others, but I still would love to have something other than glass back there (a nice, dark, hardwood, or even just some plexiglass/plastic). I've looked into the chemical side of things a little, and it doesn't appear that the type of adhesive used on the glass can be removed with a solvent that won't harm the phone. This leaves three choices: A, use a heat gun (risky because of the NFC and antennae back there. B, find a chemical reaction that will remove the adhesive (potentially harmful to the phone, materials may be hard to come by, lots of work to figure out). C, pry the glass off (not as clean, could get cut on it).
Any ideas?

What about putting a little epoxy on the crack and then put the phone in a case?

The back had a wet application screen protector on it when it broke, and I have it in a case now. I just don't like the concept of having an all glass back, especially when it isn't the same quality as the glass on the front.

I've been contemplating the same thing. I think just picking the glass out form the back would be the safest. Just wear gloves if you're scared of being cut. The only snag is the camera cutout. . . IDK.

The camera cutout would definitely be a pain. I may just end up cutting it in the same fashion as my case, with one hole for the lens and the flash. Any ideas on where to find the right wood online? Ebony seems like a great choice, but it's pretty hard to find ebony veneers of the right color and general dimensions (primarily thickness).

Try a Guitar Luthier supply. The headplates are similar in size to an phone and fairly thin, 7/64” or so and come in a variety of nice woods.

I bet we see something from the aftermarket for this within 6 mos, because clearly it is a 'need' as more phones get dropped.
