Nexus 4 on Bell LTE

The Nexus 4 supposedly has hidden compatibility with band 4 LTE. I switched the settings to get it to work on Bell LTE. I was successful in getting the phone connected to the data network, but I can't make or receive calls while on LTE. I was also able to send and receive text messages.

So, I am not sure why I can't make or receive calls while on Bell LTE. Has anyone here seen this or tested the Nexus 4 on LTE?

Works for me on Koodo / Telus, haven't tried on Bell though.

LTE is data only, you need to select LTE/GSM in the phone menu.

That is probably what I was doing wrong, but now when I select LTE/GSM auto, the phone only locks onto HSPA+. How do I get it to lock onto LTE?

Changing the selection to LTE/GSM (auto) fixed the problems. In areas of weak LTE signal, it switches to HSPA. Thanks a lot for your help.

Are you seeing a considerable speed difference?

Also FYI if what I've read is true the Nexus 4 can't do LTE data and a voice call simultaneously it does like the GSM iPhone 5 and kicks back to HSPA+ data while on a call.

The networks here in Canada, for Bell Telus and Rogers at least, have a much greater capacity than required because there is only a small number of people compared to the US.

I was getting around 16000-19000kbps down on HSPA+. On LTE, I have seen up to 33000kbps down.

Yeah, I did notice the Nexus 4 switch to HSPA+ whenever I received a call.

It's not device specific - but instead the way the network was designed. To integrate the LTE network with the existing switch setup, it was easier to have devices fall back to the HSPA network for voice than it was to implement a new IP based switch that LTE voice would require. I can only assume VoLTE will be coming some day.

How is the battery life esp on LTE? Are there extended battery / portable options that can be obtained?

After reading your post I became inspired. I did a quick search, watched a video and now have my phone on LTE through Bell!

I don't run any speed software, but visually can see and do notice a difference.
