Re: How To Get The OTA NOW (super easy)

Worked for me though took almost a dozen attempts in pretty quick succession.

Why does anyone think that's easier/safer than sideloading the update? I just don't understand ...

Just worked on mine. To answer Phil, I don't think its safer but it was easier for me to do this way while on the couch :)

Safer no, easier though...tried sideloading but couldn't get it to work, does my bootloader need to be unlocked?
Anyhow, I "forced" it already.

I think its way easier to use the clear Google services framework....Takes less then a minute. Boom there's the OTA. Don't need to go to xda tho, its plastered all over AC.

It was easier then sideloading for ME because I've never sideloaded before. No computer is needed and I had it downloading in no time.

I wasn't looking for it. I was looking at the threads on the XDA forum and stumbled upon it. Why does that method work? Anyone know?

Re: How To Get The OTA NOW (super easy)

my guess is that the system thinks you're running a really old version of android (says it hasn't checked for an update since 1969) and just pushes 4.2.2 out. Maybe clearing the data on the google services framework somehow masks the IMEI?

Re: How To Get The OTA NOW (super easy)

I've heard this method is NOT recommended. I'll pass.

Only negatives I've encountered is it screws up the Location permissions & the only way I've found to get them back is to clear the App Data of "Maps". Not a big deal IMO.

How does one clear Google services framework. I just cleared data and uninstalled updates on something that I can't find in the app store... Google play services or something

I just did this and it worked the first time.
Didn't install the update because I WANT MY LTE!

And I'm not messing with the radio.

Go to Location Access
Turn off Access to my Location

go to settings -> apps -> all

scroll down to Google-Services-Framework

force stop and delete data

then go to settings ->about-> system updates and it should say last update 01.01.1970

check for updates and it should work

Re: How To Get The OTA NOW (super easy)

I did have a Google Play error "Could not retrieve information" when I tried to updatean app . To fix this I removed my Google account from the phone and then signed back in. Lost my contacts but got them all back by syncing. This fixed the error problem.

It's safe and quick. I had a minor hiccup with the Google Play store when I tried to update an app. All is good now. What's the reason you heard for it to not be recommended?

I've read it messed up notifications, location data (as one said), access to play store (a few over at xda had to completely reinstall the os). I'll wait. Good for those that it worked.
