    Default Media server...

So I noticed today I noticed this taking up quite a bit of battery life. What exactly is it doing?

it does many things media related, as a basic OS engine.

there are several threads documenting a bug with it (which I have yet to see in 4.2.2) = it scans a media file of some sort endlessly eating up battery.

"Media server" encompases all kind of media playback, be it video, podcasts, music, etc.

If it's been eating up battery without you consuming any media try giving your phone a reboot.
