    Default Speedtest Location Wrong

Any reason why the speedtest app thinks I'm always in Kansas? I'm actually located in Colorado. I made sure my GPS options are enabled. I also enabled the data roaming just in case.

I'm curious if anyone else has experienced this and know a fix.

The location it shows isn't YOUR location, but the location of the testing server.

^this, but sometimes it doesn't show a very close server - Not sure why but my guess it has some sort of filter according to traffic... the list of available servers change constantly.

mine always shows kansas too, and never any server remotely close to me. maybe 750 miles away is the closest.

With my previous phones (Android and iPhone), the app has always chosen a test server closest to my location. I was just asking why it homes on Kansas. It appears others are experiencing this as well.

I can only speak about my experiences, but Speedtest.net has always shown Kansas or somewhere in the Midwest at first. If I let the GPS lock on and determine my location and then relaunch the application, it then finds the correct servers for my area.

It is my understanding from emailing with Okoola (the company behind speedtest.net application) that the application first uses the IP assigned to the phone in my case at&t uses Wireless DATA Service Provider Corporation ( ) for some of its IP ranges and whose IP address range is registered in Kansas and other Midwest cities.

Thus why the Speedtest.net application at first shows servers in those cities as that is where the IP is registered too.

FWIW, Atlanta / Georgia Tech is a very good connection to use. They have a MASSIVELY fat pipe into that school, so you should be able to get reasonably accurate results.

In my experience, if you have gps on it picks the closest server. I if gps is off it defaults to that Kansas server.

The app I feel needs updating because their seems to be issues when using my nexus 4 with the app and I've changed my data plan and APN settings to no avail so hopefully the Dev releases an update soon.

I now have a better understanding on why I am being sent to a server 8,000 miles from me. Access to my location = on, GPS satellites = checked, wifi & mobile network location = checked.
I'm in Honolulu, HI and I thought I was being throttled for excessive use on AT&T ST sim

Location doesn't matter whatsoever... the results are what you should be concerned with.
