    Default Nexus 4 as a wifi-only device?

I would like to purchase a Nexus 4 and use it as an iPod Touch-style media player. Can the Nexus 4 be used with only WiFi? And if so, would I be able to update, or would that require cellular data?

Yes and yes (you can update without cellular data). You should have no issues at all.

Not sure it's the best choice for an iPod-like device given how fragile it is though.
I'm still naked after 3mos, but I baby it & knowingly roll the dice every time I leave the house.

I concur. Also, consider the following:
A 16GB N4 costs 349. With tax and shipping, that comes to a bit under 390.
A 32GB iPod Touch costs 299 with shipping.

So why not just get an iPod Touch if an "iPod-like" device is what you're after?

I would do this as well. The Nexus 4 is best as a phone. I grew up using iPods so I could not see using the phone as a internet and iPod device.

OP may not want something that's running iOS.

You can find plenty of second-hand Android phones on eBay or Swappa ,or here in the Marketplace section of the forums as well. If you're looking for something high-end, look up phones with a bad ESN to find some lower prices.

Thank you! I'm considering getting a prepaid plan, so I want something that would give me that option. Plus I get the best of both worlds: Samsung's Galaxy S + Google's Nexus.

If you're going to be using one of those 2 devices as an iPod-like media player, it should be the SGS rather than the N4.
