Nexus 4 with AT&T

I am thinking about getting a Nexus 4. I am in a shared family plan which does not include data. My LG Expression(dumb phone) is due for an update. Can I transfer the SIM card from the old phone into the N4? And then can I pay for data on just the N4 and still be part of the family text and calling plan?

Does anyone have experience with this? AT&T was not very helpful.

Keep asking AT&T until you get a straight answer (since they are the only ones who would truly know for certain), or switch to another carrier. I'm sorry I don't have a better answer for you.
