Nexus won't turn off

When I hold down the power button it no longer brings up any menu...it will only turn off the screen. I can hold it down for as long as I want, but as soon as I release it the screen goes off. Did I do something while it was in my pocket? Has anyone else heard of this?

Please help!!!

Ok ended up hitting the down-volume button while holding power (which I had actually tried several times) and after a few seconds it turned off and now it appears to be fine...false alarm!
