New Nexus 4 with pattern on screen. What is it?

A friend just got a Nexus 4 and the front of it has a strange pattern on the LCD. It is very noticeable when the screen is off. You can still see it when the screen is on and displaying dark colors. The Nexus 4 I own does not have this. What is it?

I attached a picture. It was somewhat hard to photograph but look at the pattern of rectangles and some other odd shape.

The picture was taken after the screen cover was removed. Strange, I wonder what that pattern even is? The first thing I thought was that he was playing too much Galaga and it was screen burn-in. LOL

Woah woah woah.. No need to RMA.. Everyone has this on there phone and its called the digitizer. This is most likely seen in direct bright sunlight. The digitizer is visible as it is so close to the front of the screen. This gives us better touch responsiveness but also if your screen gets cracked then unfortunately it will be most likely unresponsive.

I know what the digitizer normally looks like. I can see it in bright sunlight on my Nexus and is a series of dots. The display on the one in the picture was much more pronounced with that pattern and was highly visible indoors.

Yep my digitizer looks lime dots too. That looks like a strange plaid. Is it there in low light too?

I only saw it while indoors. I compared mine to his right next to each other. Mine didn't show anything, his showed that pattern really strong. The picture I posted really doesn't do much justice as it was very noticeable in-person. The phone is new so I imagine he won't have trouble replacing it.

Nope, mine has this too and works right. I know about the dots you guys are talking about; that's different. You have to look really closely under direct light to see the pattern. It's meant to be there; Rizy7 is right.

I just had a look at my phone and the digitizer pattern is exactly the same as in the picture you attached.

Just looked at my son's Nexus 4 I received yesterday and I see the pattern too in my cube under lights at work, probably wouldn't of noticed until this post. It also has the new little pegs on the back to lift speaker off of table. Came from Tmobile.

Btw you wont be able to see it directly looking at the phone in direct sunlight.. All you will see is a reflection of your face.. Have to look at it from an angle.

I check with brightness all the way up and all the way down and could NOT see the digitizer while the screen is on. Only when it is off and really looking for it.

Mine has it also. Its noticeable with the screen off as well as different background colors make it visible also. I'm not concerned.
