Smile A LT BlackBerry User Switches to the Nexus 4 (App Advice List)

Hey All, it's my 1st post on androidcentral and I've made the switch to a Nexus 4 due to the sweet T-Mobile online deal! (It arrives Wednesday) And I was wondering if anyone could point me towards certain apps (google and/or 3rd party) that could mimic the BlackBerry experience on the Nexus 4...I do have a rooted TouchPad but I know the tablet/smartphone experience can differ at times, and many of the native BB apps function when not connected to a network since I have the lowest of the low data plan and I want to keep my data consumption in check.

    so here's the list:

    1. LED notifications
    2. are there apps/widgets that aggregates all email/sms/mms/messaging into one location? (like the BlackBerry Hub)
    3. a great memo & task app (like BlackBerry Remember app)
    4. a great twitter client
    5. a great podcast app
    6. ability to access/lock/wipe/locate/send message to device remotely (similar to BlackBerry protect)
    7. an app similar to BlackBerry Travel
    8. a secure password keeper app
    9. a flash compatible browser...(i do plan on installing Opera too for when i'm off wifi)
    10. should i install AVG on the nexus 4? i dont plan on rooting it (i have avast for my TouchPad since its rooted)
    11. good music player with EQs (although i dont plan on putting a significant amount of music in it since im keeping the 9310 w/ a 32gb card as a music player)
    12. good camera app (i read the stock is so-so but i could be wrong)
    13. and I can't wait for BBM to come to android!

    Thanks!

have a look at this list http://forums.androidcentral.com/goo...e-lan-wan.html

I will try to answer your question slowly by then

    Edit:
    1. light flow lite! best app ever
    3. Google Keep for tasks. "Google Now Reminders" for reminder
    4. falcon pro & Carbon
    5. DogCatcher??? I think
    6. Most people would recommend cerebrus
    10. NO, Antivirus is pointless. Android 4.2.2 has a built in virus scanner
    13. Install Hangouts. Most Android/Google user are in it

BTW, any recommendations for an app that will clean any leftover cached files and folders from uninstalled apps?

    1. Lightflow. If you flash CyanogenMod, a native feature is to ability to customize the LED notification light so you may not require Lightflow if you intend to flash CM.
    2. Pure Messenger Widget
    3. Google Keep
    4. Twitter has a native app. It’s not the best. But we’re all probably going to be stuck with it since Twitter is discouraging 3rd party app development with the token limit issue.
    5. Pocket Casts
    6. Lookout Security & Antivirus
    7. Tripit
    8. Have never used one, so no recommendation here.
    9. Lots of options. AOSP browser, Dolphin, Opera, etc. But you’ll need to find the apk for Flash to sideload. You won’t be able to find it on Google Play if you don’t have it installed already.
    10. No. Just be smart about what you install and where you install it from.
    11. Google Play Music
    12. Camera Zoom FX
    13. Not sure what’s the big deal with BBM. There’s plenty of popular instant messaging apps. Hangouts seems to be quickly gaining ground.

    1. Lightflow is popular.
    3. Google Keep, also take a look at Evernote.
    4. I would say Falcon Pro, but it's run into the dreaded Twitter token limit. The official app is mediocre but serviceable, or you can look at one of the older apps like Tweetcaster that were grandfathered in with higher token limits.
    6. Cerberus.
    9. The Nexus 4 does not natively support flash, but you can find the required apk floating around. Try the XDA forums.
    10. No need. Don't listen to the scare stories. Just stick with the Google Play store, only side-load when you must (like flash, above) and only from a trusted source, and stay away from dodgy apps that you do find in the Play store (knock-offs of official apps, adult apps, etc.) Android malware seems to hit Russia and Asian markets the most, but never hurts to practice safe downloading regardless of your region.
    11. Google Music actually is decent, but you can also try Winamp (yes, it's still around and pretty good).
    12. Camera Zoom FX if you don't like the stock camera app. It's not bad, honestly.

[*]are there apps/widgets that aggregates all email/sms/mms/messaging into one location? (like the BlackBerry Hub)
Not that I know of[*]a great memo & task app (like BlackBerry Remember app)
Evernote. You will never find the bottom of what this app can do[*]ability to access/lock/wipe/locate/send message to device remotely (similar to BlackBerry protect)
no real need. Evernote or Google keep or the calendar... Everything syncs what you do in one place to the other. [*]a secure password keeper app
I actually think it's called password keeper. It has a picture of a key for the icon[*]a flash compatible browser...(i do plan on installing Opera too for when i'm off wifi)
X scope[*]good music player with EQs (although i dont plan on putting a significant amount of music in it since im keeping the 9310 w/ a 32gb card as a music player)
Google play is a good service with an eq. Player pro is the best player.

    BBM. Me too.

I also was a long time BB user until this year.

    1. Definitely Light Flow.
    5. I was on the fence on podcast apps for a long time until PocketCasts 4.0 came out. Best feature is the native ability to listen to podcasts at variable speed. Prior to the N4, I had a more involved solution on the BB to listen to my podcasts at 1.6x speed.

Just got the n4 and I am very pleased with it! Now I wonder if there is a swipe to unlock mod that could bring up the lock screen, instead of pressing the power button???

Thanks for the replies, I'm mostly up to speed on switching everything over to the N4 and I found these apps (in addition to the suggestions) to be very useful in bringing me up to speed in terms of efficiency:

    - Any.do
    - Pocket
    - Seriesguide

And I must say that the lock screen widgets (among endless list of others) is my most favorite feature of the N4

Customization is an endless road. I used to completely change my lockscreen and desktop every month, usually themed to a holiday or such. In my case however I discovered that down that road lies eventual madness, so now I only switch things around every 6-8 months.

If you really want to go crazy with the lockscreen, check out . There's a with more themes than you can shake a stick at.
