problems with gmail - I keep getting a message saying "couldn't sign in"

I keep getting a system message saying 'couldn't sign in', but when I check my email it's all current. I took the account off and put it back on again and the password is correct and all that, but it keeps sending this message and it is driving me nuts. When I click it, it says "the username or password for [email address removed] is incorrect. Update them now?". But it isn't incorrect. ARGH. Does anyone know what this is about?

That doesn't sound right. I'd be concerned about malware trying to to phish some password information from you. Can you post a screenshot of that message? Take a screenshot by pressing the power button and the volume down button at the same time.

Attachment doesn't show up. What antivirus apps do you have installed? In general, it isn't a good idea to have more than one installed, because they can interfere with each other.

Try signing in on a computer first.
You may have attempted wrong a time or two from the phone and its asking for verification which you cant do there.
So go to a computer, sign into it, then go to your phone and try to sign in.

Sign out of your Google account then sign back in. Also, take a look at some of the Google services that may need to sign in to work, such an Google Plus.

Hi there, I also have a NEXUS 4 and also keep getting the the following error messages "Couldn't sign in" and "Account Action Required" for my gmail account. The gmail message says I have entered an incorrect password or my account has changed. It asks me to re-type my password or if I have forgotten and need to recover this to recover my account to click a link. the other message popping up at the same time is 'Couldn't sign in" to my yahoo account. They must be linked somehow, because they have both started popping up at the same time. And this isn't the first time they have been popping up from time to time and when they do they are continuous.

When that message appears for google its always best to use a desktop or laptop or something with a good browser to try to log into your gmail account.
You will need to pass account verification and doing it on the phone isnt a good way to do it. Once you have successfully logged into your gmail from another source, Then you should try to attempt to log in on the phone.

Hi I am experiencing problems signing into my daughters tablet, I know the username and password are correct as I re did the password on my iPad. It's getting very frustrating as I'm struggling on what to do and google are so hard to contact.

This all started as my daughter forgot the swipe password at the beginning.

Can anyone help please?

I have started to get this message 3 times in a row, every 15 minutes today. I have tried all of the suggestions including re-booting my Nexus 4 and nothing has worked. Very frustrated what else can I do.

I had this problem. For some reason I got into a porn website (don't know why - trust me as I do not go to these sites) and each time I tried to connect to the internet using chrome, all I could see was porn stuff. Tried clearing everything on the phone, but no success. So, I reset the phone to factory setting. Once I did that and signed on to gmail, I got a problem with gmail - "couldn't sign in" and then "could not connect to server...".

Called Tmobile, my phone provider. We reset the phone once again to factory setting and re-signed on to gmail. Problem solved.

Thought I would let you guys know.

I have been having this same problem on my Mac as well as on my Android phone. Total pain. What else can be done to eliminate the problem. Thanks

me too..........i got the same problem......i have try many way to fix it.......it is pain in the ***......will u find away for me please......it said(couldn't sign in......can't establish a reliable connection to the server.This could be a temporary problem or your android device may not be provisionesd for data service.If it continues,call customer care.)

Frequently I am getting message that is you couldn't sign in account whenever I select it shows server is not available
