Nexus 4 Maps 7 question
Before the upgrade to Google Maps 7, back when we had the blue Navigation icon, we had an option to go into 'map' mode, which provided the invaluable feature of following and displaying your location on a map with no timeout of the display. It behaved as it did when a destination had been selected and voice commands were being given. Only because you gave no destination, it simply showed and followed your progress without going to sleep.
With the initial rollout of version 7, however, I noticed this feature was totally lacking.. It would simply dim and go to sleep with the Nexus 4 display settings, and there was no way to keep it awake indefinitely if no destination, hence no voice commands, were being given. Which, of course, made it impossible to use, as a map, to show you your progress, as you aimlessly explored the country side.. As I said, this is an ability we had with the Nav app via its 'map' feature that seems to be missing in the Maps 7 implementation.
Does anybody know if there is a current version of Google maps that implements this behavior?
