Just a heads up about the group texting shambles on the new Hangouts.
If you text more than one person through Hangouts (unlike virtually every other stock launcher up to 4.3, or GoSMS, or Handcent, etc) the text(s) are converted to MMS. This has the advantage of becoming a group conversation, rather than the reply from each recipient going only to the original sender.
However, in the UK, most people on contract, and many on PAYG have unlimited, free SMS. However, MMS costs. If, like myself (and the wife) who are in various organisations and are always group texting (since many people don't do web based messaging) this is potentially very costly.
Google have been made aware of the problem see here (Google Groups) but don't seem to care enough to give users the option to send as SMS or MMS.
Anyway, just dumped Hangouts entirely, and back to Handcent.
