Nexus 5 Update

It seems something has been changed on the Nexus 5: Speaker's hole, for example.
According to these pictures, "wave 2" has bigger holes, in order to spread a better sound.

Larger holes would reduce obstruction, so there would be a nominal increase in volume. Of course, the plastic at the thinnest points between the holes also appears to be considerably thinner, and therefore weaker and more susceptible to damage/cracking.

not to worry! The Moto X has TINY holes and has even better sound! lol!
