    Default Nexus 5 Camera

    Hi everyone,
Is it just me or is the camera on the nexus 5 amazing?! Im very impressed by the low light performance on this phone. Ive attached some photos below that ive taken with this phone. What do you think of the camera? Post some photos you've taken with the nexus 5 below!

    P.S
To achieve these phots I used the daylight white balance/scene (can't remember which).

Nice shots. I am very happy with the camera. Coming from the purple tinged nightmare of the HTC one, I could not be happier.

No offense, but I wouldn't call pictures taken outside during the day "low light" conditions. Even if it does happen to be overcast.

I love the camera, best I've used. The pictures look soft compared to pics I've taken on my old S4

I thought the camera was good, then I turned on the HSR+, and now pictures are amazing. As long as I'm not taking a series of quick shots at least.

But it does suffer in less than stellar light (Indoors not-daylight conditions)

I also love the camera in this phone! I'm very happy with it. I love using the HDR mode and I pretty much never have it on a scene mode. I went to a concert the other night and I'm sooo happy with some of the shots I got! Used HDR at it and I'm so pleased. Also went to the new aquarium in Toronto and my photos are awesome through the glass of all the fish etc.
The Nexus 5 camera rocks so far! Happy girl right here!

Loving this thread, my phone comes tomorrow and one concern was the camera. Looking forward to playing with it.

I'm actually rather impressed by the Nexus 5's camera since the 4.4.2 update. I pretty much only use HDR+. I also never use the flash, since it takes such good low light photos, and keeps the image truer to the eye's point of view. Great for both daytime outdoors, and inside at night provided there's a light somewhere in the room or an adjacent room. But, who goes around taking pictures of dark things in the dark (as in: legitimately dark, not low light)? Creepers? I might use the flash then.

Oh yeah, I also see a lot of people on reviews and such struggling with the camera menu sliding navigation. Just use the darn menu button. What goofballs. They should learn how to use something before reviewing it.

It's an awesome camera! HDR rocks, and Action Scene does a good job as well. Here's a couple of shots I took and edited (with Snapseed) on my N5...

I struggle with the sliding navigation, where is this menu button you speak of?! Don't worry, I haven't written any bad reviews so don't be mad at me! :P

The Nexus 5 camera has gotten a very undeserved bad rap...even from Android Central people. I have no idea why they have such a bias against it, but the images speak for themselves. IMO, The Nexus 5 probably has the best quality images of any Android phone right now except the G2. The S5 will probably be better as well, but it's to early to tell. The Nexus 5's lowlight has very little noise most of the time

There's already a thread for this here: Share your Nexus 5 camera photos, videos, and thoughts!

These are images I've taken with mine (all unedited, except for size, and I think all are HDR+...most of these were taken before the 4.4.2 update).

I am the most impressed with it's macro mode...very very tight details in close up shots. The HTC Rezound was the last camera I've seen that does Macro well. Though the iPhone 5s can do good macro too.

I was testing HDR from ten feet inside a dark Hotel Bar through a open door past the patio tables into the light with the focus set on the life guard stand across the street. About all I did was crop the photo to take out the tunnel view of the bar's walls inside. If you check the palm tree that light was coming from right to left as the sun was a few hours from sunset in the west and the hotel towers is blocking direct sun all the way across the street. This is a complicated shot for lighting from shade to outside the bar to shadows to direct sun. I am amazed at all the colors that kicked with HDR+.

The camera will surprise me with it's excellent photos because of all the negative press it received. But that was before it was updated shortly after launch. Now it can compete with other flagships.

HOWEVER, the camera app itself is a trainwreck. modes and settings are not easy to find and select and it's far from intuitive.

Overall, the S4 does the best job under most conditions and has the best interface.

It could already compete before as far as quality. The quality was already there even before the patch.

I bought a Nexus 5 when it first came out and ended up returning it within the 14 day return window because of how bad the camera was. I then bought an iPhone 5s and loved the camera on that phone. After having several issues with iMessage and iTunes, I decided to sell my iPhone and give the N5 another chance since I had read good things about the camera performance after the software updates. When I got my phone I didn't expect much, but I have been VERY pleasantly surprised at the pics I'm now getting with this phone. I wouldn't say it is as good as the iPhone 5s, but it is able to get clear shots of my kids (something I could NEVER do with the N5 running the 4.4.0 software) and that is my main priority with a phone camera. So yeah, I'm really happy with the camera performance!

Um, there is no menu button. Which is one reason I hate the stock camera app. The other issues being that it doesn't offer proper preview (should ALWAYS match the end result), has no 3:2 aspect ratio option, has a poor selection of possible resolutions (aspect and res should be decoupled), has no delayed full-screen postview/review function, and cannot be set to use a GOOD image viewer (like Quickpic) . I also find it annoying/tricky to get back to the photos taken using the strange swipe action that doesn't work from the edge of the screen.

    Overall, I would give it a D or C-.

I totally agree with all of this. The quality is awesome, but the app itself needs a lot of work.

All the alternative camera apps I have tried have worse quality though. Thats why i still use stock.

I put it in HDR+ and use it like any other point-and-shoot. When I can get images like this one, I have no complaints. (Be sure to tap the image to see the full detail.)

It's that Macro again...on the Nexus 5 it is just awesome. It is almost like having a zoom lens for close up.

I used the galaxy s4 and the nexus 5 camera a lot and prefer the quality of the gs4 a lot more then the nexus 5. While I like the ois on the nexus 5 the gs4 quality is a lot better and I also find the flash not as bright as the gs4 as well.

A lot of people prefer the gaudy, over saturated Galaxy AMOLED screens. Obviously they confuse the over saturated colors with image quality. If you put the Galaxy screen side by side with a screen having accurate color, the average person will choose the Galaxy over saturated AMOLED screen every time.

I don't prefer AMOLED and while I do like it I also like LCD screens as well. These are pictures I have seen after I have taken them on different screens including a IPhone 4, Ipad air, Nexus 7, my Laptop, and even my Nexus 5. The picture quality I find the S4 Wins in overall quality. The image is sharper when you use the digital zoom, zooming on a picture and I find the S4 better in low light compared to the nexus 5

My sister in law has an S4. My Nexus 5 has a noticeably better camera than hers. If you discount her over saturated images, the difference maker is the Nexus 5 HDR+ when making side by side shots.
