I'm using a Nexus 5 in Japan, data-only sim.
Being a data-only sim, the phone displays no connection to a signal source, while at the same time it is connected to the LTE band. It seems that since the phone cannot find a cellular signal, it drains the battery by boosting power to the cell radio and trying to connect to a cell tower. Turning on Airplane mode kills the cell radio, unfortunately it also kills the LTE/mobile data, which is what I'm using to make phone calls and connect to the internet.
The only solution I've found so far is a custom ROM install but I don't really want to root the device.
Has anyone solved this particular problem?
