My Nexus 5 is having both cellular and wifi issues. There are places I have normal reception with other devices and cannot use my Nexus. It is my second one so starting to think I may have to use a different device. How are others seeing things?

I am on AT&T for reference.

Did this all of a sudden present itself or after installing a particular app?

If it's two of them, it could be a network problem... Did you try updating the PRL?

Edit to add: Iggymart's question is also a really good one!

It has always been weaker. I will have to think about apps. Thanks for the input.

Check to see that the device software is up to date. It likely is, but you never know.

Second, consider a factory reset after backing up your data and see if that improves any signal issues. If it does, an app or service could be to blame.

If still no resolve then consider reinstalling the factory firmware. If you are not comfortable doing that contact Google and inquire about a replacement.

I have the same issue. It's strange coming from an iPhone just how long it takes for an update to come out for android.

My software is updated. I am sending it back and they are sending me a new one. I may preorder the S5 though either way. Maybe the GPE addition will come out quickly.

I appreciate the ideas.

Re: Reception Issues are getting Worse

My Nexus 5 has a weaker signal than my wifes old clam phone.
We are in a VERY weak signal area ... usually a dead zone.
One place in the house I can sometimes get 1 or 2 bars.

I run the OpenSignal app.
It shows me my cell signal strength in bars, percent, and dBm.
It also points to the Direction of the nearest cell towers.

OpenSignal always shows 1 more bar than the Nexus 5.
The meter bar on the Nexus 5 may error towards a weak signal.
Often, even when showing no bars, I still do NOT get the "Emergency calls only" message.
With no bars, I am still getting a weak signal.
