Angry Lots of scratches after 5 days?

Hello, had my nexus 5 for 2 weeks. Five days ago i took off the screen protection it came with. Yesterday i was at my PC and the light was turned on and i took a glare in the light at the nexus which until that moment i knew was pristine to find out 6 hairline 2cm scratches and lots of little scuffs everywhere on the phone's screen.

I had this phone for only 2 weeks and when i found out how damaged it actually is was a HUGE dissapointment. Before to tell me i didn't had enough care for it i want to say I never dropped it, i only kept on my soft material trousers and rarely brought it outside. Otherwise, it sat still on books/notebooks(didn't even let it on the table as it is a harder material). I took a good care of it.

It's really wierd it got so scuffed by being held so carefuly while my other friend has his nexus 5 for 4 months and hasn't used a screen protector and has ZERO scuffs.
On my older device, a htc sensation, i didn't had those hairline scratches, only deep ones after i used it alot. Could it be the particles of sand in my pocket that did such a huge mess?

Maybe it has those hairline scratches when you got the phone.

Have had my N5 for two months or so, no screen protector, no scratches.
Had my last phone two years, no screen protector, no scratches.
In fact, I have never used screen protectors on any glass phone nor any of my tablets, and have never had scratches on any of them.

However, I NEVER put a phone in my pants pockets or lay it down on the screen. Only in a holster or occasionally a shirt pocket.

If I put my phone in a pocket, I always make sure it's an empty one--no coins, keys, or any other debris.

Probably some sand or something. If the pocket is clean then not a problem, but something in it can cause scratches. I recommend a tempered glass screen protector. If cost is an issue, a regular screen protector would work, but might not feel as good as glass

I would second the recommendation for a tempered glass screen protector, with such fine scratches they won't be noticeable with the screen protector on. A tempered glass screen protector will get scratches too, but mine, after two months use, only has small scratches that don't bother me in actual use, because I know I can replace it whenever I want. Plastic screen protectors may save you money in the short term, but they scratch so much easier the extra you pay for a glass one is worth it, and the cheaper glass ones aren't expensive.

Welcome To Android Central. I suggest putting on a Tempered Glass screen Protector. that will hide the micro scratches somewhat.

    ^^ This.

With a tempered glass screen protector, you won't notice a difference in feel or look from the naked screen (no noticeable dimming, identical feel). Also, so long as you're careful in aligning it, you really won't be able to tell you have one on without close inspection. Lastly, mine - which I've had on for about 4 months - has yet to suffer any visible scratches, but did likely protect my screen from a pretty bad drop that chipped the edge of the tempered class (very light chip). An impact that did that to the glass was one that would likely have damaged the screen itself which, not being tempered glass, would have sent a fracture line across the display.

Also, tempered glass protectors don't stretch, haze, yellow, rainbow, or otherwise show physical signs of wear (though

The only caveat is that you may have an issue with a tempered glass screen protector if you use certain cases. I'm using a Spigen Ultrafit case (about $8) with a Nillkin protector (about $17) which work flawlessly together for about $25 total (another plus for the case is that it doesn't interfere with Qi charging capability). The Nillkin went on extremely easily with no bubbles whatsoever. At 0.3mm thick, it still allows the case to have a (minimal) lip when laid face down. It's worth noting Spigen's Nano Slim is only half (0.15mm) as thick so would allow that tiny fraction more space, but that thinness comes at the premium of $38 (more than twice the price).

Thanks everyone for the tips, i got used to the idea this had to happen and after all they are just hairline scratches and it's impossible to notice them if you aren't under a lightbulb or some light reflecting into the screen.
I'll look forward buying a tempered glass because everyone recommends it.
