So I have been having an issue with my Hangouts no receiving picture msgs. Its as if Hangouts picks and chooses which ones it wants to allow. One notification says"new MMS message to download: size is 1265KB" followed by an expiration period. I click on download, but it keeps failing. Any help on this would be great! Thank you

Have you attempted to clear Hangout's cache? I would also try to clear out the system cache. Try a reset of the APN settings: Settings -> More (Under Network Settings) -> Mobile Networks -> Access Point Names -> Options -> Reset to Default. Sorry if my instructions are labeled different as I was using Android L 5.0 as a reference point and they did change a few things.

Thanks for the reply. I've only had my Nexus 5 for a few days. Would clearing the cache really help? I don't want to lose my older msgs.

I cleared Hangouts cache, system cache, reset APN. Then changed APN from IPv6 to IPv4 (since others had luck with that). None of that worked for me. I then changed APN to IPv4/IPv6, and now have received an MMS...not sure how long this will last, fingers crossed.

I'm on T-mo.. this started happening about 3 weeks ago for me, .. but it's gotten so bad the message keep failing no matter what. I'll check out Textra.. I'm not very fond of Hangouts anyhow. I thought maybe it was a 4.4.3 issue but I just dl the 4.4.4 update yesterday.

I started having the same problem today. I called T-Mobile and the guy said he had received a call about it earlier but that they didn't see any "outage" or anything in my area and that someone would contact me within a few days. Great.

Having the same problem as of today.

On T-Mobile.

btw, my outgoing images seem to be received okay. Also, I only use the SMS/MMS component of Hangouts, not the google account portion.

Update: TMO live chat just told me the following:

Loyd O: Oh my! It saddens me to know that you experience the issue on MMS. I can definitely provide all information regarding to it.
Loyd O: Please accept my deepest apology for any inconvenience that this has caused. I was able to see the reports and our specialist are currently working on it to resolve the issue in MMS. Please be advised that it can take up to 24 to 72 hours.

I'm still having the issue, although not as bad, with Textra. It's not just me, other Tmo customers on android I text with are too. outbound seems just fine.

Kind of funny you posted this.. shortly after I posted my last reply, I've not had the message show up again. I hadn't contacted T-Mobile yet either. Not sure I'll switch back to hangouts.. I kind of Like Textra better.
