How can I retrieve photos from my busted Nexus 5?

A

AC Question

I cracked my screen and it is now unresponsive. I can't get past the lock screen, so I can't retrieve it from my laptop. Is there anything I can do?

I don't think so; you may be SOL. I don't think you can do an adb pull, since you probably don't have USB Debugging turned on (if you do, then go here How to Push and Pull Files on Android using the ADB commands), and if you can't unlock the device, then that might be it unless you change the digitizer (or borrow one for a few hours) so you can get to your files.

Is the whole screen unresponsive? What Android version are you on?

According to that article, if you have turned on "back up data" in "backup and restore" your photos should be in the cloud associated with your Google account. I think I got that straight. I did a factory restore and my apps, settings, WiFi accounts and passwords and my photos were restored. I only had one photo but it was restored. I was using the same device I used to take the photo but I'm pretty sure the backup links to your account and not the device.
