When I got my Nexus 5 back in 2014--and, yes, I'm still learning--I put a glass cover on the screen. It was great. I dropped it once in the street and the glass cover got a slight chip on the lower left corner from a piece of gravel. The actual screen wasn't damaged. About six weeks ago, on a whim, I took the cover off. I was shocked. I had been cleaning the glass cover at least every other day and often I used eyeglass cleaner--home-made--in cleaning.
Without the glass cover, my Nexus 5 goes days without cleaning and I haven't needed to use my spray once. The finger prints simply wipe off with a microfiber cloth. I wonder if Gorilla Glass makes and oleophobic screen protector?
