I connected my 6 to my laptop so I could put music in the Music folder on the phone. While I can download music from Google Play, it can't be accessed by either my alarm app or my ringtone maker. If I put it into the Music folder, I can do both. But when I connected it, the laptop recognized it and the phone said it was connected via UBS. but I couldn't access the phone's folders. Is anyone else having that issue? And does anyone know how to address it? Thanks.

Yeah, I think its a lollipop issue because both my Nexus 9 and 6 do this. The only way my PC will recognize the devices is if you put it into camera mode, which does no good because you cannot transfer files directly. Even with USB debugging it will not work.

In just used an otg cord and transfered my files
from a USB stick.

If the phone is locked (PIN code, Pattern, etc) you will not be able to access the data over USB until you unlock it.

If that doesn't resolve the issue, try Settings -> Storage -> Menu -> USB computer connection. Make sure "Media device (MTP) is checked.
