So I was always pleased with the speed of T-Mobile's LTE in my area on my N5. Typically I'd get 10-15Mbps down, about 5Mbps up, and about 70-90ms ping. Let's just say that this first test I ran with my Nexus 6 - which I ran in the heart of the city at lunchtime - left me very pleased!

Yes, I'm sure, it's probably a snail's pace compared to what some people might be getting, but that's quite a staggering difference in my book.

Considering that, unless the server you're downloading is very close (topographically on the net, not necessarily geographically) you're probably never going to exceed a 2mbps download for at least a year, that's impressive, but how many streams can you run on a phone at once? Your connection can support 12 2mbps streams at a time. (In your house, with 5 people downloading files while they're streaming movies, you need the bandwidth, but on a phone 5mbps is faster than the internet itself.)

I've been very impressed with the speeds.. T-Mobile has been awesome in and around Dallas.. overkill for the most part...

Give it a try around Bush and the Tollway. I've broke 100 mbps several times

lol... 100 Mbps is insane and even worse overkill than what I get here in Coppell.... This was 635 & MacArthur in Irving.... The speeds over at Six Flags and AT&T Stadium were even higher.. up around 60 Mbps.... But I've not seen 100 yet.... At home I get 10 - 15 Mbps when not on WiFi and just LTE and I can't really tell a difference when web surfing vs 40 - 60...... Quicker emailing a picture or down/uploading a video....

and crushes Sprint.. I was with them for almost 15 years and rarely broke 5 Mbps on LTE..... There were a couple of good sweet spots downtown Dallas that I actually saw 30 with Sprint but in Irving, Coppell, Grapevine, Lewisville it was horrible.... and at AT&T or Six Flags Sprint was almost useless....

lol..... Just depends on what your doing... at 10 Mbps from my phone I can stream a full length movie without even a flicker (as long as the connection stays consistent) but 99% of my phone use is web surfing... Not uploading or downloading large files....

I'll take 40, 50, 60 or 100 Mbps all day long.... at those speeds you shouldn't have an issue doing anything from your phone.... or tethering a Laptop and two tablets as well....

They have several towers in that area. Att is also very strong in that area and all of DFW really. Thinking of getting a tmo prepaid card for my iPad air 2 so this is good to hear. My wife has tmo but not an LTE phone.

TMO is generally strong all around DFW and maybe a 20-40 mile radius outside of it. AT&Ts data has significantly improved since they've started carrier aggregation and they are definitely the most solid (as far as consistency) around here. The one thing that keeps me from going all in with TMO is coverage outside DFW. I love having unlimited at a decent cost but unlimited does nothing for me when I am driving in central or west Texas with no signal.

Agree it is overkill for my normal use too but good to know its there if I need it. I had much the same experience with Sprint. Tried them a few times and they are just pathetic around here. Definitely improved recently but they are easily the worst of the major carriers here. Curious to see how they will be when (if) their network upgrades are completed.

I've gotten some crazy speeds also, on both At&t (my main carrier) and T-Mobile. T-Mobile has really improved their network in my city (near ATL).

Sprint has so much potential.... I think they have some of the deepest spectrum available out of all the carriers and now being owned by Softbank they should have at least deep backing.... They just can't seem to upgrade their network for crap.... Dallas was one of their LAUNCH LTE cities and my wife actually still uses them and their LTE footprint is just shockingly bad in Dallas... Even in busy and highly populated parts of down you go in and out of LTE coverage even if you are just walking down the street.... They brag about all these upgrades and then it just doesn't seem to translate to real life usability...

and they can't seem to PICK A PROGRAM!!!!!! They flip and flop around with different plans, offerings, discounts, promo's and then they only offer these great deals to NEW customers while their old customers are stuck paying higher prices vs the people they are trying to trick into their network...

Oh well... I struggled through their failed WiMax roll out and spent 3+ years here in Dallas as a launch LTE city and I live in Coppell and there LTE service from Coppell to Irving over to Grapevine is just horrible..... Useless at AT&T stadium, Rangers Ballpark or Six Flags.... YOU'D THINK they'd saturate the heck out of that area....

Yes, my wife rarely leaves DFW unless we are on a trip and she has used my att several times while on trips and vacation, but she generally likes the service. I travel nationwide so want the att service. I have been with them since 96. TMO offers a 5GB, 5 month iPad plan for $10 that I was going to try just to have coverage if for some reason I did not have WiFi.

TMO is pretty amazing across DFW.... Very few weak or dead spots.. but you are correct.... get outside the Metroplex (and I think saying 20 miles out is being generous) and you are pretty much dead for anything remotely close to a data signal.... I know when I go up to Winstar or Choctaw T-Mobile is mostly useless all along the major highway (and the same thing on the drive down to San Antonio) if you live, work and play inside a decently populated area T-Mobile is pretty good... a couple of pockets along the highway you'll get a good LTE signal but those areas in between are horrendous....

but I spend 99.9% of my time in Coppell, Irving, Grapevine, Lewisville and occasionally Arlington when the kids want to go to Six Flags... I also use that $30 Walmart plan with unlimited Data and Text since I rarely use more than 100 minutes per month... So you can't beat that.... The last time I drove back to TN I just got an AT&T prepaid SIM and card for one months use.... I'd pop that in for the drive and then swap back out my T-Mobile SIM once I got to the mother in laws house in Nashville......

EDIT: Switching out for the AT&T SIM isn't ideal if you travel often.. Which I use to do.. but if you take a trip or two a year it's at least an option if you are out of contract and have an unlocked device..

T-Mo actually has improved at Winstar (and from what I'm reading, all over Oklahoma). At least that was my wife's experience. She took her mom to see Reba there last month and she had great LTE coverage most of the time and no issues calling or texting me pictures, etc. I currently have a line for myself with 3gb data that I added when I got the Nexus 6 (a fiend has to get their fix somehow). I tried T-Mobile earlier this summer and I couldn't keep my Xperia Z2 or unlocked 5S off Edge a majority of the time in my office. Now, my Nexus 6, 6+, and even my old 5S I sold to a coworker are all able to hold onto LTE in my office without bouncing around. Evidence that T-Mobile is making a concerted effort to improve their network around here. I'm thinking of just porting my line over to T-Mo and dropping AT&T and get a prepaid sim from Cricket (AT&T) during deer season or any other time I'm in the sticks. Most of my travel keeps me on the interstates so I should be good, especially when the EDGE to LTE conversion is complete. I'm like you...an overwhelming majority of the time, T-Mobile meets my needs and the network is as solid as any here in DFW when outside. When the 700mhz a block is up and running in building propagation should increase by a pretty good margin. It is getting to where there are few cons to going with T-Mobile over the other carriers. Hoping they can acquire enough spectrum in the 600mhz auction that is upcoming to plug the vast rural areas where they lack coverage. 700 should help to an extent but they have a relatively limited amount of it in the areas that they have it.

In the parking lot I get blazing fast LTE.... in most of the casino I have a good LTE signal.... BUT I play poker and I am not kidding you... As soon as you pass the threshold into the "non-smoking" section and into the Poker room I lose everything... Nadda in the poker room.. (However the last time I was up there was September and was on my Nexus 5.... My Nexus 6 gets a much better reception in most of the places I go vs what my 5 got) Choctaw I got a signal in the parking lot but nothing inside (again with my 5)

Yeah I actually got a Straight Talk SIM on AT&T when I made my drive..... along the highway on T-Mobile I at least get call service.. but outside a metro area your not looking anything up on the internet... I actually left my T-Mobile SIM in the phone unless I needed the data and then swapped out the other card to access the AT&T network.....
