Ambient Display transparency

The Ambient Display doesn't show when I have a notification on some of my apps. When I hit the power button I see the notification before I unlock my phone. Has anyone else noticed this? If so, what can be done about it?

It was a couple of apps. One was Weather Underground. It was recently updated so I thought that it was going to be fixed but it wasn't. It is a constant notification so it does show in the notification tray just fine but not when Ambient Display is enabled. I can't remember the other app. Is this something that the developer would have to adjust or is this something that is due to Ambient Display?

Yeah my weather underground partially shows but the words are just a dark box it's strange ever since 5.1
