Why do Google Photos force close when trying to access Device Folder?

A

AC Question

why does Google Photos force close when trying to access Device Folder?

Device: Google (Motorola) Nexus 6
Android Version: 5.0.1
Kernel Version: 3.10.40
Rooted (As Boolean) = True

Summary: Ever since Google Photos updated, the app force quits whenever attempting to access the Device Folder.

Troubleshooting steps performed:

Force quite Photos
Cleared Cache + Data in the Photos app
Uninstalled Photos updates (App will not run unless updated)
Cleared Google Services Cache (Read about it on the internet)
Cleared dalvik-cache (Why not?)
Restarted device (like a boss)
Booted into Safe Mode (Power>hold Power Off>Press OK) = same results

if you have any other ideas on how to resolve this issue besides a factory reset, that would be great. If not, I guess I will do a Nandroid backup and do the deed

Exactly the same problem here, I think it occurred after todays update. Did the same things to solve it like the poster above. Has someone found a method to fix this issue?

Device:Motorola Moto G 2014 with custom rom/kernel (minimal os 5.1.1 rooted)

Re: why does Google Photos force close when trying to access Device Folder?

Time to use other apps.

I use photos only to take backups onto Google photos. Didn't find it good enough in mobile
