I have an old Nexus 6 can it receive the Nougat update over wifi if the carrier cut off the phone?

Ok long story short I am going to pay down my debt. But my phone was cut off by Verizon. If I go to a wifi hub and go online which I can do right now will I likely be able to update the Android Software version to Nougat? Using wifi the phone functions. Yes I made mistakes and intend to fix it?

I have a 6 which is not on a carrier network and it updated on 4 Oct via WiFi. No problems.

My 6 was being used on Verizon, now sim-less. I haven't reset it or anything. I've gotten security updates regularly, but no Nougat yet. Is it still rolling out, or should I have gotten it by now?
