Nexus 7 speaker blown?

So I've had my N7 since mid July without any problems. In the last 2 days or so, though, I've noticed a lot of distortion coming from the speakers, almost as though the speakers got blown out somehow. I'm unrooted, and I don't think I've put any unreasonable strain on my device. Has this happened to anybody else? Or is it possible that an app could be causing this?

I had mine about a month I'd say, mine has a muffled sound coming from the speakers also. On some apps no sound at all! I just thought that's the way it was made.

Yeah mine's not muffled. It's scratchy and distorted, though not when the headphones are in. Through headphones it sounds fine. But unplugged, the speaker sounds like **** as of about 2 days ago.

I've had mine make a distorted noise and then the speaker stopped working twice but I reset the device and its been fine ever since. I've had mine since the release date and haven't had any other problems. Hmm.nits a possibility your speaker could be blown.

Are any of you using apps that amplify the volume? Maybe that is causing the issue. I also read on this forum that they could potentially damage the speaker, but others dispute that it could. If you are using an amplification app I would uninstall it and see if the sound gets better (albeit at a lower volume).

I've had equalizer apps can cause this also.

Also had mine about 5 weeks with no issues at all. My speakers blew this week. No amplified sound and actually very little speaker usage. Called Google and they sent a replacement device, which I received much quicker than my original device.

I've never noticed and distortion before...But I have had a couple of scary instances when I'd hear the speaker seemingly pop and I'd lose audio. I rebooted it both times to remedy the problem...But scary nonetheless.

I had this issue on a c60 (it had the glass separation too). I could handle the glass thing but the speakers crackling at only 50% volume was unbearable. I got a c70 replacement this week. I'm glad I did. I will be careful with the volume from now on. Oh, and the build seems so much better on this new device now that the glass is securely glued.

No amplifier apps, no equalizers other than the play music app. Speaker is definitely blown since the sound is clear through headphones but very scratchy even at low volume without headphones. Fwiw mine is a c60. I'm sending it in to Asus tomorrow. Hopefully they'll take care of it (and a dead/stuck pixel that's been there since day 1).

ive been having the issue where the sound pops and no sound after, but an easier fix is to go into settings and sound, silencing all volumes, then putting them back up...fixes the issue

Yeah that's exactly what happens with mine. Hmm I'll try that fix next time. Sorry t hear about all the people will blown speakers. I have a c60 model and so far my only problem is the speaker pop thing which is really weird but I can deal with it. Haven't had it happen since I made this thread though lol

Picked mine up on 8/8, been perfect up until 2 days ago. Same as OP, my speaker is blown. No amplifying apps or excessive use. Just static above 50% volume. I'm thinking this falls under Asus' 1 year warranty? Really don't want to be without myN7 for 2 weeks though. Anyone have any experience with sending back for this problem?

Last usd it for a long time with headphones...will try headphones again before restarting


Update: plugged in headphones and sound came from headphones but nothing upon unplugging them. Restarted and sound is back.

Yeah it does fall under warranty. I sent mine out for repair on the 16th of this month but it didn't get shipped out until the 18th. The tracking said it was delivered on the 20th but the guy I called to check my RMA status with said it didn't get there until the 23rd. He said up to two weeks from when they received it. So it's gonna take longer than two weeks. I read another post in a different thread that it took them two months to repair his Transformer. I really hope it doesn't take too long. And the rep said it's actually being repaired so I guess they're not gonna send me out a replacement device.

My speaker blew out on the 15 day mark. Sucks because I bought it from Staples and their return period is only 14 days and they don't honor manufacturers warranty..... Rarely used the speaker. The only sounds were just the notification sounds. I played music through headphones.

Is it possible that the speakers are 8 ohms and the headphones are 32 ohms. Or these numbers may be more or less. Plug in headphones and you get audio, pull them out and you get no sound. The connector only has four wires. Two are the left and right speaker wires, the other two are grounds. That is what makes me wonder if the speakers have failed or maybe the headphone jack is defective and not reconnecting the speakers when the headphones are removed. I am at a loss how this symptom is related to software or firmware. problem. The jack itself or resistance mismatch or blown speakers. Has anyone tested these ideas thru electronic testing? Just my opinion.

Bought one today and it turned out to be old stock i.e. C60K with nasty sound distorsion when over 50% of volume. Pulled back cover off, no tools needed, just use fingernail to get gap on one side and it'll come off. Next I removed black rubbery edged mesh that's on top of two speakers on bottom. Fixed. No more audio distorsion. Problem appears to be due mesh touching speaker elements. I also moved serial sticker from outside of back cover to inside of back cover and placed it over wide speaker opening to make sure no dirt gets in, as speaker elements would otherwise be more exposed.

Might not be same for others, but for me that fixed problem a lot faster than returning it to for exchange that would possibly have exactly same problem to begin with. At least 4.1.2 seems to have built-in equalizer implementation. Not much differences, perhaps bit better when using internal speaker when this equalizer is turned on and using "Normal" preset.

Got my N7 at launch and only noticed in the past couple of days that the sound is distorted when volume is over 50%. Called Google Play support and they said it's a known issue and they would replace my device at no charge, no trouble at all. Haven't received the new device yet, but we'll see how it goes.

Recently on my nexus 7my speaker was blown. I also got a Nexus 7 update and I noticed at that it happened after that. before its fine but now it's all staticky and distorted. Ear jack works fine even in my vehicles stereo system sound is fantastic but the speaker sucks I am only had this tablet 2 months
