Nexus 7 overheating

Recently, twice in the same week, my Nexus 7 has been over heating to almost a burning heat. Now, every night I plug my nexus in and its usually around 30%. Then I put it under my pillow while I listen to a podcast and fall asleep. Then I wake up and usually it fine but today I got my temp gun and it read 138? F on the front glass. I looked at my battery status and it showed that it charged to about 80% and then the screen turned on and the battery was draining very fast while on the charger. I think that is when it overheated and the nexus couldn't vent air cause it was under a pillow. Would this screen turning on be a result of a bug in JB or could it be a rouge app? Or could it be that daydreamer thing that is like a screensaver. I am running stock android 4.2.1

I don't think the part where you "put it under your pillow" is such a great idea. I would stop doing that if I were you.

You think that the pillow may trap in the heat? I'm not sure if that's the problem cause its only happened twice. I looked at my battery usage history and my screen turned on around 3 in the morning and its draining the battery while its charging. So something is going rouge.

But that doesn't explain the spike in energy usage.

It goes without saying then when you're asleep you move about. A lot.

If your Nexus is under your pillow then it's not inconceivable that you've touched the screen while your asleep or your taking sleep walking to a whole new level and "sleep nexus'ing".

I guess that is possible but my history said my screen was on but my device was not a wake. I'm not sure what that means but I doesn't seem likely I was using it during sleep. And also the app battery drain history doesn't show anything that extreme.

Putting his nexus under his pillow is not the issue. I've got mine on my lap right now and its really hot at the bottom left corner. I had just finished watching an anime I like and it started to over heat. Just like that. I havnt noticed anything about the battery yet though.

I have a new N7 about one month and just upgraded to 4.4 Kit kat last week. sence then I have suffered one bout of over heating while charging in sleep, it got up to 146 deg. and drained the battery while charging.

Something is relay wrong here

Assume you do not have it in a case. Also that you have it off while charging. Try Battery Doctor.

I have had similar problems but your problem won't be helped by you putting it under your pillow. The pillow will insulate the heat.
